Here’s Why The Defense Stocks Sector Is The Best Trade Today / Companies / Sector Analysis
BY PATRICK WATSON : September is not unfolding as expected.
Just a few weeks ago, this month was supposed to bring an angry stand-off in Washington and possibly a government shutdown or debt default. Those could still happen, but President Trump’s deal with the Democrats pushed it back to December.
And then we have the threat of nuclear war.

Half Of S&P 500 Earnings Growth Can Be Attributed To One Sector, Which Can’t Keep It Up / Stock-Markets / Sector Analysis
BY PATRICK WATSON : US stocks hit new all-time highs this month. Despite rich valuations, buyers think they’ll still go higher.
One reason for this exuberance is the rise of passively indexed ETFs.
Rather than go to the trouble of picking individual stocks, people dump their cash into index ETFs. The ETF sponsor then buys every stock in the index—even the ugly ones.

Hit or Pass? An Overview of 2017’s Best Ranked Stocks / Commodities / Sector Analysis
Subject to an entire array of occult myths, the stock market is, in fact, the platform through which companies raise money. After an IPO – initial public offering – based on the estimated value of the company at the time, the ownership is split into a number of shares. Each share is a piece of the company.
However, the primary activity of the stock market takes place after the IPO. Having been attributed a value, the shares are constantly being bought or sold on the stock market, increasing or decreasing in price. The largest markets, such as the NYSE or NASDAQ, have millions of shares issued, with thousands of investors who buy or sell in a single day. This high volume of shares that change hands means that in that particular market, it is easy to buy or sell shares.

Why Airlines Are The Next Big Trade / Companies / Sector Analysis
BY JARED DILLIAN : I’m a longtime airline bull, going all the way back to 2012–2013—long before it was trendy.
I liked airlines because everyone hated them. Especially Warren Buffett, who once said that someone should have shot Orville and Wilbur out of the sky. He now owns the stocks.
A pilot wrote a great article in The New York Times saying that the conventional wisdom about airlines (which is that they suck) is all wrong.

The Recession-Proof Industry That Few Investors Know / Companies / Sector Analysis
BY PATRICK WATSON : Americans are pet crazy. Recent surveys show that more than two out of three Americans own some kind of pet. According to the ASPCA, almost half of American households own a dog and around a third are cat owners.
Demographics are also likely to boost pet ownership, as people who don’t have children are more likely to have pets. Therefore, the continued greying of baby boomers and the low birth rate among millennials means that growth in pets in the US is set to continue.

Defence Contracting Sector Under Trump / Companies / Sector Analysis
BY PATRICK WATSON : This month, President-elect Trump annoyed some people when he criticized two top defense contractors on Twitter.

Imploding Department Store Results / Companies / Sector Analysis
The government issued their monthly retail sales this past week and four of the biggest department store chains in the country announced their quarterly results. The year over year retail sales increase of 2.4% is pitifully low in an economy that is supposedly in its sixth year of economic growth with a reported unemployment rate of only 5.3%. If all of these jobs have been created, why aren’t retail sales booming?

Investors High-profit Guide to this Radical New Economy / Companies / Sector Analysis
MoneyMorning.com William Patalon III writes: By any measure, we've experienced an extraordinary bull run, with the S&P 500 soaring as high as 2,134.72 since it bottomed out at 676.53 on March 9, 2009.
But the real story is in the catalysts that led the markets to better than triple over that relatively short time – the story beyond quantitative easing, cheap-as-free money, and tax breaks.
Rather, these extraordinary gains have come from a group of "hot spots" that have given rise to the creation of an entirely new economy.

DIYers Stocks Sector Summer Trend Is Revving Up / Companies / Sector Analysis
Matthew Carr writes: I’m secure enough to know what I can and can’t do.
But a longtime friend is always telling me about his plans to remodel his home. That he’s going to take down a wall or put in a new set of cabinets or build some piece of furniture.
I used to ask, “Who’s your contractor?” (Because finding a good contractor is nearly impossible.) But I stopped asking after hearing, for the umpteenth time, that he’d be doing the project himself.
