Calculating Risk in Commodity Trading / InvestorEducation / Commodities Trading
In my opinion…everything boils down to risk… not how much you can make..but how much you can lose in commodity trading. More so when we put on a trade..we think to ourselves mentally…how much is this going to cost me to see if the trade will work. The sad thing is that most people believe because they put on a trade…it has to work…many experienced commodity trading advisors think the opposite…We always think in terms of risk per trade…risk per sector…and open trade equity risk.. If you trade commodities yourself you need to think in these terms…or if you allocate to a commodity trading advisor you need to get good answers to these questions.

Year End Commodity and ETF Trend Trading Signals / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Well, here we are with only hours left before the year is over. Virtually every investment is up other than the US dollar.

Trend Capture in Commodity Trading / Commodities / Commodities Trading
You do not hear that often the word trend capture in commodity trading. Most of the time it is called Trend following. The difference however depending on how the commodity trader or commodity trading advisor trades there are times big draw downs occur as well as big profits are given back in trend following. However this has to be a given in trend following. One makes his money only by capturing those rare big trends. Many times the commodity trader gets whipped around.

Gold, Crude Oil and Stock Index Trading into January 2010 / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Another holiday trading extravaganza!!!
Last week the market fell into its regular holiday tradition of light volume, as institutions and big traders enjoyed the holidays thus allowing prices to drift higher. We still have one more week of light trading volume before this year and holiday season is officially over.

Forward in Commodity Trading / Commodities / Commodities Trading
In the world we live in, nothing is easy. No one is spared sorrow, pain, and sometimes anger associated with their mistakes. Lets face it …we all make mistakes. Mistakes in commodity trading are costly. However sometimes it is the best money spent if we learn from them. However…all too many commodity traders do not learn from their mistakes..they make the same ones over and over until they quit with disgust. It does not have to be this way.

The Easy Way to Make Money in Commodity Trading / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Quick answer…there is no easy way to make money in commodity trading. Sorry about that. No get rich quick schemes. The fact is once in a while you hear of someone who made a killing in the commodity markets ( Remember Hillary Clinton and her $100k Cattle Trade)..but it is not reality.

Gold, Hot Commodities and the Major Indexes Trend Trading / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Gold has been leading the market for almost a year. Last week gold and gold stocks were trading at support looking ready to bottom but as you will see in my charts below, both broke support on heavy volume.
With gold now under performing the stocks market, I get the feeling we could see the broad market top. Topping is a process and after this strong climb I figure it will be choppy (tough to trade). Much like the price action on the Dow and S&P500 the past month, but this time it will be on a larger scale.

Professional Commodity Traders / Commodities / Commodities Trading
When you watched the last Super Bowl game did you see how the Pittsburg Steelers overcame the Arizona Cardinals? I was impressed by the professional way they performed. They did not beat themselves by making mistakes. A professional regardless if in sports or in any field makes fewer mistakes than others.

Stocks and Commodities Christmas and New Year Trading Trends / Commodities / Commodities Trading
It’s been a great week so far. Stocks and commodities are moving as expected from my weekend trading report. I like to see the market unfold in a calm collected manner.
The US dollar has made a nice move in the past couple weeks. Although it has broken out of its down channel I think there is a lot of short covering going on making this bounce more powerful than others. Also it is important to note that it is near resistance which could dampen things around the $77-77.5 level. If the dollar heads back down I expect gold to start making a move back up which it started to do Wednesday.

Profiting in a Falling Commodity Market / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Anything can happen in commodity trading. As much as inflation can come about there can be deflation and result in a declining market. Most people do not think it is possible to profit in a declining market. This could not be further than the truth. As long as there exist trends profits can be made on the upside or on the downside. However on the upside there is no limit how high it can go…so there is statistically more profits on the upside.

Where Next for the Stock Market, Gold, Silver and Crude Oil? / Commodities / Commodities Trading
The past three weeks have been interesting to watch as the Dow (DIA ETF) has broadened causing traders to be shaken in and out of positions. Reasons Why Commodities Prices Will Continue to Soar In 2010 / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Martin Hutchinson writes: In a Money Morning column last December, I predicted that “commodities may be due for a recovery in 2009.” It’s always nice to be right, but I have to say the move in some commodities has surprised me. Just look at the performance figures for the 12-month period that ended in mid-November.

Seasonal Trading Charts for Dow, Gold, Crude Oil and Gas / Commodities / Commodities Trading
The market has had a fantastic week so far for stocks and precious metals. The financial and energy sector are underperforming which is a concern, but we continue to hold our positions and will wait until a reversal to lock in our gains.
Things seem to be lining up for stocks and precious metals to take a breather, which is in line with the Dow Jones Seasonal chart below.

- “to engage in thought or reflection;”
- “to buy and sell commodities, stocks, etc. in the expectation of a profit through a change in their market value.”
- from Latin, speculatus, observed, examined:

EUA, Carbon Emissions, Favour Short Term Bears / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Price swings over the last few months have kept the charts in consolidation mode, below a long term key Fibo resistance level. Recent losses have temporarily tilted the scales more in favour of the bears, but losses should prove temporary in the grander scheme of things.

Weak U.S. Dollar Boosts Commodities, What’s Next? / Commodities / Commodities Trading
Another fantastic week for precious metals as the US dollar continues its slide lower. Energy commodities like oil and natural gas are having some difficulty finding buyers.
When commodities start to trend they become very profitable for those riding them up or down. But when a short term trend starts to virtually go straight up (parabolic) then we must be prepared for a sharp pullback. Once the price starts to slide I figure a lot of short term traders will begin locking in profits, sending gold down.

Cotton Commodity Bulls Waver At 61.8% Recovery Level / Commodities / Commodities Trading
The recovery in Cotton from its Nov-08 low slowed during the summer, at one stage suggesting a reversal was in the offing. However, an Oct break to the upside kept bulls on track for the next upside target around a 61.8% recovery level – and now there are indications that a temporary pullback is due.
