Investors: Are You in Danger of Emotion-Driven Decisions? You're Not Alone / InvestorEducation / Learning to Invest

By: EWI

Or...Your Defense Against FOMO

As the winter holidays draw near, many of us will fall victim to the affliction we call "S.N.O.M.O." -- the Sudden Need of More Objects (to own, play with... and eventually, store in the basement).

Lists and budgets are no match for SNOMO once we take our first steps into a big-box store with its flashing signs and blazing blue lights. Within minutes, a powerful urge takes over and suddenly we're leaping in front of an old lady with a cane for the last cat-massage combing kit despite not knowing a single person who owns a cat, self included.

Gold’s Appeal Now That Brexit Uncertainty and China Trade War for Global Economy Are Gone / Commodities / Gold & Silver 2019

By: Arkadiusz_Sieron

China and the U.S. have reached a preliminary agreement, which softens their trade war, while the landslide victory of Conservative Party in the UK parliamentary elections clears the path to Brexit. Given that downside risks for the global economy are now significantly lower, how much do investors still need gold?

UK Parliamentary Elections and Gold

On Thursday, the British people voted in another snap parliamentary election (the third such since 2015) called by Boris Johnson in October due to increasing parliamentary deadlock over Brexit. The Conservative Party won a landslide victory. The Tories got 43,6 percent of votes which translated into 365 seats. It means a net gain of 48 seats since 2017 elections. As a result, the Johnson’s party won with a majority of 80 seats, the highest since 1987. The Scottish National Party also gained seats which can lead to the second referendum on Scotland’s independence in the future. In contrast, the Labor Party performed disastrously, losing 60 seats, which was their worst result in more than 80 years. Jeremy Corbyn, the party’s leader, has already said he will step down early next year.

Setting Up A U.S. Dollar Crash And Metals Rise / Currencies / US Dollar

By: Avi_Gilburt

I know that many investors follow correlations as if they were gospel. But, do they really understand what a correlation represents?

You see, markets are not linear in nature. While two different markets may be traveling in the same direction for a period of time, unless you understand each chart on its own, how will you ever know when a seeming correlation will break? And, if you assume that they will align indefinitely, how long does it take for you to cut your losses in determining that a seeming correlation has broken?

Remember, when you are following a correlation, all you are doing is assuming a relationship will continue indefinitely in a linear manner, despite the fact that markets are simply not linear in nature.

Inflation Threat Looms in 2020 as Fiscal and Monetary Stimulus Ramp Up / Economics / Inflation

By: MoneyMetals

The Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate unchanged as expected last week. However, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell made news with some of his most dovish remarks to date – stating flatly that he won’t hike rates again until inflation moves up significantly.

“In order to move rates up, I would want to see inflation that’s persistent and that’s significant,” Powell said at a news conference following the Fed’s announcement.

He would be anticipating “a significant move up in inflation that’s also persistent before raising rates to address inflation concerns.”

America See You On The Dark Side Of The Moon - Part2 / Politics / Social Issues

By: James_Quinn

In Part 1 of this article I tried to link the greed and depravity of those pulling the strings behind the curtain of the Deep State with perpetual warfare being waged by the military industrial complex and the purposeful dumbing down of the populace so propaganda spewed by the Deep State’s media mouthpieces finds fertile ground. Pink Floyd’s lyrics from their existential album – Dark Side of the Moon – continue to resonate today, even more than they did in 1973.

Breathe

Breathe, breathe in the air Don’t be afraid to care Leave, don’t leave me Look around, choose your own ground

Long you live and high you fly Smiles you’ll give and tears you’ll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be

I knew Part 1 of this article would be easier to write than Part 2 because I’m more comfortable writing about financial issues and expounding upon the political and economic degradation of our empire of debt. Pondering my life and choices I’ve made or haven’t made is something I’d rather not think about. But, as I was driving home from getting blood work done last Saturday morning, the haunting chords of Breathe emanated from my car radio, urging me to tackle the rest of my article. Breathe is a very short instrumental piece of less than 3 minutes.

Standing Ovation For the Stock Market Bull Train / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2019

By: Ricky_Wen

The second week of December played out in a picture-perfect manner offering little to no surprises per our expectations. If you recall, this setup was fully assisted by the ongoing bull train/trend and the first week of December daily 20EMA "stick-save" setup where everybody and their mother had opportunities to load up for dirt cheap per our KISS Report discussions. In essence, last week played out as the usual daily 8EMA acceleration and the market was guns blazing into the 3193.75 multi-month measured move target on the Emini S&P 500 (ES) that most market participants that were biased would discount. Well, here we are as expected, the market is now heading into Christmas/year end closing print with ES/SPY being up about +27% for YTD with a lot of traders just in an autopilot mode as it’s been a spectacular year.

Weaponizing the Dollar; Gold Mining Stocks Chart Path to Breakout / Commodities / Gold & Silver 2019

By: MoneyMetals

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s comments on inflation last Wednesday added fuel to the contra-dollar trade.

During a press conference following the Fed’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged, Powell said, “In order to move rates up, I would want to see inflation that's persistent and that's significant. A significant move up in inflation that's also persistent...

"To move inflation expectations up from where they are, which appears to be a bit below 2%, will not happen overnight."

In other words, the Fed won’t be satisfied until consumer prices rise much higher over time.

Current Stock Market Rally Similarities To 1999 / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2019

By: Chris_Vermeulen

Euphoria is a type of market rally where valuations, real market expectations, and global market concerns are pushed away from view while a trader based rush to rally takes place.  One of the clearest examples is the 1995 to 2000 DOT COM US stock market rally.  As the Internet burst into homes and businesses across the world, the US-led the way with dozens of new Internet-based IPOs touting glorious expectations, potential earnings and more.  Everyone had the idea this new medium would dramatically change the economy for the better and breakthrough traditional economic boundaries.

The rally that took place in 1995 through 2000 was incredible.  The S&P 500 rallied from 463 to 1535 – +235.57%.  What we find interesting is the “price wave formation” that took place within that rally.  There were a number of key price rotations that took place as the market continued to rally, we’ve labeled them A, B, and C.  The first rotation, A, took place in July~Dec 1997.  The second, B, took place from May 1998 to November 1998.  The last, C, took place between January 1999 and November 1999.  Technically, these rotations are significant because they represent “true price exploration” related to price advancement.  The price must always attempt to identify true support/resistance levels while trending.

How Startup Fundraising Works / Companies / SME

By: Sumeet_Manhas

How does startup fundraising and getting funded really work for startups?

Throw together a pitch deck, run around Silicon Valley showing it off to investors, and rest easy on the weekend with a pile of checks and plenty of commas in your bank account, right? Not exactly. There is typically a lot more involved in fundraising than you see on the surface.

ONS UK Unemployment Statistics Paint a FAKE Picture of Falling Unemployment / Economics / Unemployment

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Today the ONS published it's latest labour market statistics which include headline grabbing news that unemployment has continued to fall to an historic low of just 1.28 million as the below graph illustrates, far below the trough before the financial crisis hit Britain. However there is a fly in the ointment of this rosy picture that the Governments economic propaganda arm (ONS is painting which is that official unemployment statistics have been manipulated lower by successive governments all the way to the point that on their own they are pretty much meaningless. For instance there are over 8.6 million people of working age who are ECONOMICALLY INACTIVE, that's another word for UNEMPLOYED!

Economic Tribulation is Coming, and Here is Why / Economics / Great Depression II

By: Michael_Pento

The global fixed income market has reached such a manic state that junk bond yields now trade at a much lower rate than where investment-grade debt once stood. Investment-grade corporate debt yields were close to 6% prior to the Great Recession. However, Twitter just issued $700 million of eight-year bonds at a yield of just 3.875%. That is an insanely low rate even for investment-grade corporate debt. But, the credit rating on these bonds is BB+, which by the way, happens to be in the junk category.

One has to wonder how fragile the fixed income world has become when investors are tripping over each other to lock up money for eight years in a junk-rated company that is offering a yield only 1.5 percentage points above the current rate of inflation. And, in a company involved in the technology space, which is a sector that evolves extremely rapidly with a high extinction rate. Oh, and by the way, Twitter missed on both revenue and earnings in its last quarterly report. Nevertheless, this issue was so oversubscribed that the dollar amount for the offering was boosted by $100 million just days before coming to market.

Why Every Investor Should Own Hazardous Waste Stocks / Companies / Sector Analysis

By: Robert_Ross

There’s only one guy in history who’s built three Fortune 500 companies.

His name was Wayne Huizenga.

Wayne founded automotive retailer AutoNation. He was also instrumental in Blockbuster Video’s growth. He wisely sold his stake for $8.4 billion in 1994.

But Wayne’s crown jewel was Waste Management, Inc. (WM).

Waste Management is the largest trash collection, disposal, and recycling company in North America. It runs a very dirty but very profitable business.

Pittsburgh Evolves into a Technology Hub / Companies / SME

By: Sumeet_Manhas

Steel is the first thing that comes to mind when many people think of the city of Pittsburgh. Nicknamed "The Steel City" and "Home of the Steel Curtain," this once global hub for manufacturing created the infrastructure needed to make the United States what it is today.

Fast forward several decades and the city began to lose its image. Steel production continued to fall in favor of imports. Homes lost their value, and businesses slowly left the once famous city. Since then, it's been a journey for the city to find itself an image, but luckily it has.

Technology has begun to become a focal point for the city as it reinvents itself. If Silicon Valley is our tech city of the west, then Pittsburgh is the tech city of the east. Companies have formed and thrived, producing technologies and intellectual property that are used throughout the industry.

Precious Metals, Copper, CRB Commodity Markets Step By Step , Inch by Inch / Commodities / Gambling

By: Rambus_Chartology

Tonight I would like to update some commodities charts we haven’t looked at in a while. There have been some subtle changes taking place that need to be addressed. Just like the PM complex that topped out in 2011 many commodities also topped out that same year and have been correcting ever since. With the US dollar at an important inflection point it may be time for commodities in general to show some relative strength which they haven’t done for a very long time.

Lets start with this very long term monthly combo chart which has the CRB index on top with the US dollar in the middle and gold on the bottom. Back in April of 2011 the CRB index topped out while the US dollar bottomed out exactly at the same time with gold topping out 5 months later in September. As you can see there is a mild correlation between the CRB and gold with their 2011 trendline both sloping down while the US dollar is sloping up.
