Chopp'n Down The AAPL Tree, Stock Price Heading Below $400 / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Ned_W_Schmidt

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleA month ago we warned that AAPL($602) had broken down from a parabolic rise. Despite near universal love for this stock, the failure of that pattern was a warning that a much lower price was the destiny for this purveyor of electronic toys. Apparently in disregard for the danger in this formation, 46 of 51 analysts continue to rate the stock a buy. Our view today is the same as in March. AAPL is likely to trade below $400 before the year ends.

Understanding JPM's Blunder That Cost It $2bn & Counting / Companies / Derivatives

By: Submissions

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleSimit Patel writes: I feel it is imperative for all market participants to have a general understanding of how JPM's hedge blew up, something that some espouse as a black swan (think LTCM in 1998 & probably the exposing of MFGlobal's corzining of investor capital to cover losses on sour speculative bets). The MSM has been quick to cover this story on JPM's alleged felony with regards to its risk management and how a "hedge turned speculative". Whilst there are bits of true facts and opinions presented, a good chunk of it is quite literally bosom-dung. Zerohedge has put up a meticulously detailed analytical piece on how things went wrong and puts the CIO (chief investment office) decision making tree in soft focus - A must read for folks who want the fresh juice of the entire edifice on a grand scale. I'm merely going to share my analysis which contains alot of the stuff in Zerohedge's piece but also delve deeper into where more explanation is warranted. This isn't child's content, it is deep stuff (think quantitative finance) so take some time to really understand every sentence in this post and in Zerohedge's piece.

A Different Approach to Trading Apple Stock Using Options / Companies / Options & Warrants

By: J_W_Jones

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleApple (AAPL) is one of the most actively traded stocks currently. For the trader who trades only stock, there are two major difficulties in executing trades in this stock:

1. It is breathtakingly expensive.

2. It exhibits periods of neck snapping volatility exposing the trader to substantial losses if he gauges the direction wrong and does not act quickly.

Why Investors Think Twice About Facebook / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDon Miller writes: Ever since the Dutch East India Company became the first to issue stocks and bonds to the public in 1602, investors have seen initial public offerings (IPOs) as the road to riches.

The current hype surrounding the Facebook IPO is just one example.

Why Facebook's IPO Valuation is Insane / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Vitaliy_Katsenelson

I was recently on CNBC discussing the Facebook valuation, which I believe is priced for out-of-this-world perfection. The easiest way to assess the insanity of Facebook’s valuation is by comparing it to Google’s. Facebook is set to go public at a sweet valuation of $100 billion, and it has estimated revenue for 2012 of about $4 billion.

FaceBook $100 Billion Internet IPO Emperor Has No Clothes, Investors Could Lose 85% / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The Facebook IPO at $38 a share to raise $18.4billon is expected to value the social media company at over $100 billion that reeks of another LastMinute Dot com investors being suckered moment. Now Facebook clearly has value by virtue if its 900 million subscriber base, however valuing the company at X100 earnings is well on par with that of the peak of the last dot com bubble. The IPO itself illustrates that public investors are being sucked in by media hype as the amount to be raised has risen from first $5 billion, to $10 billion and to finally over $18 billion as major private investors including Goldman Sachs and Russian billionaires cash out as they offload stock to the public.

Blue-Chip Dividend Growth Stocks Are Today’s Strong Option For Retirement Portfolios / Companies / Dividends

By: Charles_Carnevale

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThere is a confluence of factors that are painting a very odd picture of current investor behavior.  Common sense and a careful analysis of the market dynamics between equities and bonds today would indicate that investors should be acting in the exact opposite manner than they are. Interest rates are hovering at a 100-year low, which creates two problems for investors.  First, there is not enough return from bonds to fund a retiree’s income needs or to fight inflation. Second, investing in bonds with interest rates so low makes it riskier to own bonds today than it has been in over a century.

Apple "Store Within a Store" Bold But Risky Strategy / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDavid Zeiler writes: Hoping to expand its reach, Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is testing a store-within-a-store concept with both Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT).

Although both retailers have already been selling Apple merchandise, the new "micro-stores" will expand the current offerings (with the exception of Mac computers) and create a product experience more akin to an Apple Store.

Money Center Banks and Stricter Financial Oversight / Companies / Banking Stocks

By: BATR

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleOnce again, the practices of the "Too Big to Fail" banksters bring the financial money machine to the brink. The J.P. Morgan derivative losses and trading gambles by their "London Whale" demonstrates business as usual in the murky world of risk distortion. Even the vexing progressive Robert Reich makes an accurate assessment for breaking up the big banks and the resurrecting of Glass-Steagall.
