3 Psychological Ingredients behind Great Web Content / Companies / Internet

By: Submissions

We live in a world flooded with information. Most of the times, we skim through it, merely glancing at the articles, videos, and images that come our way. But, sometimes, we stumble on a piece of content so amazing that we hit the share button without giving it a second thought.

So, what is it that makes content good?

Surely, you are working hard on every piece of content you create, doing thorough research, optimizing it for SEO, and sharing it on all important social media channels. So, why, in spite of your consistent efforts, some articles perform better than others?

Why Is Home Depot Stock Slumping After Earnings Beat? / Companies / Corporate Earnings

By: Mike_Paulenoff

Home Depot (HD) beat on EPS, Revenues, and Same Store Sales when it reported on Tuesday prior to the market open. However, after initially popping 2.5% to 158.11 from Monday's 154.26 close, HD reversed sharply into negative territory at 153.00/10 in pre-market action and closed the day at 150.17, down 2.6%.

I am not sure what the selling is all about, except for a "sell-the-news" reaction, but one look at my 4-hour chart of HD, we can see that HD actually peaked back in mid-May, and since has established a series of lower-highs (including Tuesday morning's spike to another lower-high).

Neil Howe: The Amazon-Walmart Rivalry Will Determine the Future of Retail / Companies / Amazon

By: John_Mauldin

My good friend Neil Howe has reconsidered the escalating war between Amazon and Walmart for the future of retail. And in true Neil fashion, he has come up with some surprising insights.

One of the takeaways here is that market “duopolies” can save consumers money—so you and I had better hope the battle isn’t resolved anytime soon.

Did you know that one in five US consumers is now an Amazon Prime member? But don’t count Walmart out, Neil warns.

Tech Guru Unveils New Battery To Challenge Lithium-Ion / Companies / Lithium

By: OilPrice_Com

By Tsvetana Paraskova : The rise of electric vehicles and the quest to find solutions to energy storage for the renewables industry have created a breeding ground for tech experts to develop battery technologies.

Last week, Sun Microsystems co-founder Bill Joy and the company he currently backs, Ionic Materials, unveiled a solid-state alkaline battery design that they claim would be cheaper and safer than the lithium-ion battery.

Influencer Marketing Predictions All Businesses Should Take Into Account / Companies / SME

By: Boris_Dzhingarov

Influencer marketing is a huge trend in marketing right now. There are millions of new articles that appear online every single minute. That is why the very best content that a business creates can easily get lost in the loop. It is always important to get people to see the content that you create. Without this any content marketing campaign will fall flat. Out of all the ways in which you could promote something on the internet these days, using influencers is what tends to be highly engaging. It is not at all difficult to find influencers in any industry.

US Companies Are More Indebted, More Leveraged, Less Profitable, and Yet Better Valued Than Ever / Companies / US Debt

By: John_Mauldin

Once again I start with a warning: A recession is eventually coming and a financial crisis with it. There is a real potential for it to come soon, although serious tax reform could delay it.

But sooner or later, the pressures of too much government debt and too many government promises, plus growth that is continually grinding slower, will break out into a recession.

Is Space Travel Crazy… or Inevitable? / Companies / Technology

By: Harry_Dent

Of course, everyone in the Baby Boom generation remembers how uniting and inspiring the early orbits and moon landings were. Such heroic efforts, much like wars, also advance learning and technology, often beyond any expectations.

Today we have billionaires and tech leaders from Elon Musk to Richard Branson planning civilian trips around the moon as early as next year… leading the parade to Mars and its colonization… and mining asteroids for precious and rare metals.

Asda Sales Collapse and Profits Crash! UK Retailer Sector Crisis 2017 / Companies / Retail Sector

By: Nadeem_Walayat

In a series of videos I have been explaining why the likes of Tesco and rest of the already depressed retail sector were facing a perfect storm of rising brexit producer prices, falling consumer disposable earnings whilst at the same time continuing to haemorrhage customers to the discounters. All of which would culminate in increasing pressure on profit margins and balance sheets. Which ultimately warns to expect a woolworth's moment, i.e. a retail giant going bust, whilst in the meantime the crisis will at the very least translate into many job losses and the mothballing of many unprofitable stores, the closure of huge super markets, something that is unthinkable to most will likely become a reality as distressed retailers attempt to bolster profit margins by cutting costs by closing super markets that are no longer able to operate at a profit.

Asda Sales and Profits CRASH - UK Retailer Sector Crisis 2017 Continues to Worsen / Companies / Retail Sector

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Up until results released this weeks, Asda had been battling Sainsbury to take the second place spot in terms of being Britain's 2nd largest retailer with sales for both virtually neck and neck on £24 billion. Asda as part of the giant US Wal-Mart group has been seen as being the more robust of Britain's largest retailers, many of whom are facing a perfect storm of BrExit inflation producer price hikes, contracting customer disposable earnings and loss of customers to the discounters such as Aldi and Lidl. Which has thrown all of the retailers into a full blown crisis as my analysis from earlier this year has been warning of that ultimately this means we may witness a Woolworth's moment that see's one of Britain's largest retailers goes bust, with my focus being on Britain's biggest retailer TESCO that has been in a literal death spiral now for several years.

Why Slumping Auto Sales May Not Say What You Think They Say / Companies / US Auto's

By: F_F_Wiley

July auto sales (released today and charted below) remained weak and should trigger a few recession forecasts. In fact, over the past few months we’ve read about half a dozen commentaries linking the recent plunge in auto sales to an imminent recession. And we understand the reasoning, but we’ve yet to buy into it.

We agree that car sellers face a degree of demand saturation while potential buyers suffer from credit saturation, or at least that’s what the data seem to show. We also agree that the saturation twins tend to be late-cycle indicators. But we’d like to add another possible explanation for slowing auto sales, one that yields a different conclusion about recession risks.

Baby Boomers Are Aging Quickly and Here’s How You Can Benefit / Companies / Demographics

By: Charles_Sizemore

If you’ve followed my writing for any length of time, you know how much respect I have for Harry and his demographic work.

Believe it or not, Harry, and his approach to forecasting, gave me the confidence to help launch Peak Income – an income newsletter – at a time when most investors were terrified of yield-focused investments.

The consensus two years ago was that inflation and higher bond yields were just around the corner, which would’ve meant a rough ride for the kind of investments I recommend.

Activist Investors Are Taking Over Wall Street, Procter and Gamble Might Never Remain the Same / Companies / Corporate News

By: Boris_Dzhingarov

In February, billionaire investor Nelson Peltz revealed that he had purchased a $3.5 billion stake in Procter & Gamble Co (NYSE:PG) through his investment firm, Trian Partners.  Wall Street suspected that the purchase was part of a grand strategy even though Mr. Peltz didn’t offer any proposals on making changes in the company. Market analysts surmised that the billionaire investor was bidding his time – now it seems that Peltz indeed had plans to make some changes at Procter & Gamble after all.

Biotech with Alzheimer's Focus Makes Progress on Several Fronts / Companies / BioTech

By: TLSReport

In its corporate update for Q2/17, a Canada-based biotech targeting neurological disorders including Alzheimer's disease informed investors of advancements in several programs, including designation of a second validated lead compound in development.

Among ProMIS Neurosciences Inc.'s (PMN:TSE) "key accomplishments" in the quarter, the company noted it expanded its potentially "best in class amyloid-beta (Aβ) portfolio for Alzheimer's disease," according to a July 10 news release. In its oral presentation, the company stressed its emphasis on the "best in class" goal, noting that even though Biogen Inc.'s (BIIB:NASDAQ) aducanumab will be "first in class" and is progressing well in development, the ProMIS compound could be more selective and possess greater patient benefits.

AAPL's 6% June slide - When Prices Are Falling, TWO Numbers Matter Most / Companies / Apple

By: EWI

On June 29, the Apple iPhone turned 10 years old. But, for many, the mood surrounding the milestone was less than celebratory. Reason being, in June alone, Apple Inc. (AAPL) plunged 6% to two-month lows amidst a broad-scale bruising of the global tech sector.

And so, the cursor on some Smartphone stock trading apps sits there -- blinking, blinking, blinking...

What's the next move? Is AAPL's 6% sell-off the start of a new downtrend. Or, will prices find a bottom and reclaim the upside?

iGaming – Stock Prices / Companies / Investing 2017

By: Submissions

Daniel Hult writes: Investing in iGaming companies
The gaming industry is an attractive prospect for investors. Since the emergence of online casinos, we have seen plenty of successful IPOs. The global trend today is that the market is consolidating, and this goes not only for UK, but also for Nordic gambling companies. As these companies are less known to us, it could be wise to investigate the most popular Scandinavian iGaming companies to invest in.

A Former Lehman Brothers Trader: It’s Time To Buy Brick And Mortar Retailers / Companies / Retail Sector

By: John_Mauldin

BY JARED DILLIAN : Everyone thinks it is only a matter of time before Amazon puts every department store, every mall, every brick-and-mortar retailer out of business. Amazon gets an infinity market cap and everyone else gets zero.

Sound familiar?

That’s the accepted wisdom.

Is Amazon a great business? Yes.

Is a department store a bad business? Probably.

The Whole Foods And Amazon Merger Is A Sign Of The Major Trend Every Investor Should Be Aware Of / Companies / Mergers & Acquisitions

By: John_Mauldin

BY PATRICK WATSON : If you are a shareholder in either Amazon (AMZN) or Whole Foods Market (WFM), their combination ought to please you.

Both stocks rose on the merger news while the rest of the grocery industry dropped. But in the long run, I’m not sure their deal will work out well for any of us.

US Fed and Mainstream Media’s Moronic Statements On The Whole Foods Buyout / Companies / Corporate News

By: Jeff_Berwick

It’s already bad enough we live in a world overpopulated by idiots. Worse, they are often in charge of ‘the monetary system’ and even head up ‘the media’! Luckily for tomorrow, entrepreneurs are busy developing a decentralized crypto-monetary platform for a money that nobody can control, and an alternative media, of which we are part.

One recent article encompassed precisely the unnecessity of the stupidity of central bankers and their mainstream financial media lapdogs.
