Panicked by the Yield Curve Inversion? Time to Load Up on This Stocks Sector / Companies / Sector Analysis

By: Robert_Foss

For about a week last month, the yield curve inverted for the first time since July 2006.

Prior to that, this happened in July 2000 and April 1989.

There’s a pattern here… each inversion hit about 18 months before a recession. In fact, the yield curve has inverted before every recession over the last 50 years.

As such, recession-proofing your portfolio is imperative for investors.

The good news is the yield curve inversion also means stocks should perform well in the short term.

The even better news is that I’ve found a sector that consistently outperforms the broader market after every yield curve inversion.

At Look at IPOs in Digital Advertising / Companies / IPOs

By: Rodney_Johnson

Digital advertising is supposed to be the fuel of the future, funding new companies (#IPOs) that provide us with services we never knew we wanted – Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. – while tearing away at our privacy.

But there’s a problem.

Digital advertising is annoying users, and starting to creep us out.

I don’t want to see ads for lightweight jackets for the next three months just because I searched for one last November.

And by the way, isn’t that a bit backward? If I already bought the jacket, why is it still being marketed to me?

These 3 Computing Technologies Will Beat Moore’s Law / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Stephen_McBride

There’s a big lie about disruption going around. And folks aren’t spreading it intentionally.

Many smart investors I talk to genuinely believe it to be the truth.

If you accept this widespread lie, you’ll likely make poor decisions when investing in disruptive companies.

Here, I’ll explain the real truth and why it matters to disruption investors.

Want To Earn A Safe 5% In Fixed Income? Buy Preferred Stocks / Companies / Dividends

By: Robert_Foss

Chances are you’re overlooking an entire class of safe, high-yield stocks…

These stocks have dividend yields averaging 5.7%. Yet very few retail investors own them.

That’s a shame. It means you’re probably leaving a lot of (predictable) money on the table—a thought income investors should cringe at.

If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m talking about preferred stocks, the bond-like cousin of ordinary “common stocks.”

As I’ll explain, today’s interest rate environment makes now a great time to buy preferred stocks.

Elliott Wave Analysis of SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: WavePatternTraders

If you are an active trader, then you may well have been noticing the recent strength on the semiconductor stocks, particularly stocks like Broadcom (AVGO) Intel (INTC) and Microsoft (MSFT). Although there are a few more semiconductor stocks that have shown strength since the Dec 2018 low, based on the weighting, the stocks listed are the more important stocks to follow in my opinion.

Taking a look at the ETF called XSD, it's pretty much the SOX in disguise, I favor the frenzy and euphoria that we are seeing now, is likely a 5th wave of a large impulse wave from the 2009 low. It's common to see Technology stocks being bid when traders and investors are chasing the market. We saw that into the Oct 2018 high as the FAANG stocks were being bid up. Today it's not so much the FAANG stocks, but the semiconductor stocks, which is very reminiscent to what was seen into the 2000 tech bubble top.

Online Grocery Shopping Will Go Mainstream as Soon as This Year / Companies / Retail Sector

By: Stephen_McBride

—and These 2 Stocks Will Rake In Bill

Americans spend more money on groceries than anything besides housing.

The American grocery market is also 3X bigger than ALL of the online retail market. In other words, we spend 3-times more money on groceries than we do buying stuff over the internet.

Yet almost none of it happens on the internet.

You can see on this chart that a tiny 2% sliver of total grocery sales in America happens online:

Elliott Wave Analysis of XBI (Biotech ETF) / Companies / BioTech

By: WavePatternTraders

This is one area of the market that is actually showing some weakness compared to the NDX and SPX, so it could be a warning for both those markets. The reversal from the last minor swing high at $93.87 could be favoring a peak in place, although I would still allow for a bit more upside to end wave [B] if needed.

As long as it fails to make a new high above $101.52, then it has a bearish setup for a move lower and tests $60.00 - 55.00 to end wave [C] to complete a large 3 wave decline from $101.52.

Bearish below $101.52, but tentatively looking lower below $93.87.

What Is Making Tax Digital and Why Should Businesses Care? / Companies / Taxes

By: Submissions

Tax is an inevitable part of conducting business in the UK that all companies must comply with, for better or worse. It provides for public services that we all make use of, and if we don’t meet our obligations in a timely manner and ensure our figures our correct, we are subject to fines. In 2018, the number of individuals late for their tax returns reached 746,000, all of whom may have been subject to a fine of £100, and more if the period of lateness is over three months. Fines are also levied in the case of intentional and unintentional errors made.

But everything could be set to change with a new tax management system that the HMRC in in the process of implementing, which should ensure that greater convenience is brought to businesses in the keeping of tax records, as well as saving time and resources funded by the taxpayer.

Here’s What You Should Know About the Finance Behind Venture Capital / Companies / SME

By: Submissions

Venture capitalists help startups grow by offering capital in exchange for equity during early stages. Of course, there’s much more to the process than simple siphoning money from VC to startup: often, this capital becomes a lifeline for promising businesses whose roadblocks are almost entirely monetary. Today, VCs play a huge role in the financial landscape of the startup world.

Financial FOMO with Lyft IPO / Companies / IPOs

By: Rodney_Johnson

Biotech in 1990, internet companies in 1999, vacation homes in 2005, cryptocurrencies in 2017. Now the fast money is chasing ridesharing pioneer Lyft, as well as other unicorns (private, money-losing companies valued at $1 billion or more). The Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) can certainly make us look foolish.

My mother warned me about things like this. Something about following friends off a bridge…

LYFT Stock IPO Mania is Wall Street’s Dead Canary / Companies / IPOs

By: Michael_Pento

Recently, Wall Street has been myopically focused on the IPO of a ride-sharing company called Lyft, which by the way, is hemorrhaging money. Since investors have become much less concerned about profits and valuations, this offering was an incredible 20 times oversubscribed. Meaning, the underwriters received $47 billion of orders for Lyft shares but raised $2.3 billion. The company generated $2 billion in revenue last year and lost an incredible $911 billion! Investors rewarded this profligate business model with a market cap of $27 billion.

This is a great example that Wall Street has gone nuts. The Lyft IPO price was $72 per share and shot up to $88.60 on its first day of trading. But the following trading day those shares were down 24% from the high. Indeed, this is emblematic of the dead canary in Wall Street’s coal mine.

Why Stock Buybacks Are Such a Mistake / Companies / Corporate News

By: Harry_Dent

A lot’s driving this bubble we’ve been in since 2009, but good fundamental trends and things like demographics and technology are not among them.

The biggest inflator has been the $13 trillion worth of quantitative easing (QE) courtesy of central banks. Thanks to their significant gift to all but retail investors like you and me, speculation has become the norm.

With higher cash flow and cheaper borrowing rates – all in a slow growth economy – companies quickly learned that the best way to increase their earnings per share (EPS) was to shrink the number of shares available.
