America in Worse Fiscal Shape than Detroit - Video / Politics / US Debt

By: Videos

Boston University Economics Professor, Laurence Kotlikoff, says, “The country is in worse fiscal shape by many miles than Detroit. So, the country is essentially bankrupt.” Dr. Kotlikoff estimates the long term debt and liabilities of America are more than $200 trillion! He is spearheading a bill in Congress called The Inform Act. It is an attempt to wake up the nation to our dire financial situation so something can be done to fix this enormous problem. Dr. Kotlikoff explains, “The bill has been endorsed by over 1,000 economists, including 15 Nobel Prize winners in economics . . .

  • Government debt that will never be repaid
  • Levitation of S&P and bond markets
  • Gold price suppression
  • So much more

Detroit Bankruptcy: Banksters and Unions Conspiracy Against the Working Class / Politics / US Debt

By: Global_Research

Joseph Kishore writes: Last week, the Michigan branch of the main US union for state and local government employees filed a joint motion in federal bankruptcy court to push for the sell-off of artwork at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). In precise legal language, the document exposes the unions as full participants in the bankers’ conspiracy against the rights of the working class.

The motion (available here) was drafted by American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 25, an AFL-CIO affiliate, in collaboration with Financial Guaranty Insurance Company, a major bond insurance firm. The FGIC and AFSCME Council 25 were joined in the motion by a number of other banks and financial institutions.

The Tribal Mentality Indoctrinateing Individuals into the Tribe's Beliefs / Politics / Social Issues

By: Dr_Jeff_Lewis

Adil Elias writes: "The tribal mentality effectively indoctrinates an individual into the tribe's beliefs, ensuring that all believe the same, the structure of reality, what is and what is not possible for the members of the group is thus agreed upon and maintained by the group." — Carolyn Myss

To fully understand how societies operate, one must go back to where everything started, to the very beginning, from the days when people left the caves and started to come together to form small tribes.

Why the U.S. Fed's 100th Birthday Could Be Its Last / Politics / US Federal Reserve Bank

By: Money_Morning

Peter Krauth writes: On December 23rd, the Federal Reserve will turn 100 years old.

We can look back on its few successes... but its many failures far outweigh any positives it may have achieved.

What's at stake now is the Fed's future. And it looks bleak.

What Now for Janet Yellen? / Politics / US Federal Reserve Bank

By: Matt_Machaj

"It deserves emphasis that a 6-1/2 percent unemployment rate and inflation one to two years ahead that is 1/2 percentage point above the Committee's 2 percent objective are thresholds for possible action, not triggers that will necessarily prompt an immediate increase in the FOMC's target rate."

Ron Paul - You Cannot Negotiate With Iran? / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

You cannot negotiate with Iran. That is what they told us for years. The Iranian leadership is too fanatical, they are not rational actors, they are "not like us." One US official even recently said that deception is part of the Iranian DNA. But just over a week ago negotiations between the five permanent UN Security Council Members plus Germany and the Iranians produced an historic agreement that may be first step toward a new era in US relations with the Middle East.

Will Work for Food, Please Help! Hunger in America / Politics / Social Issues

By: Stephen_Lendman

It’s hard giving thanks when you’re hungry. It’s harder living in the world’s richest country. It’s harder still knowing government officials don’t care. It’s hardest of all wondering how you’ll get by.

More below on growing hunger and deprivation. It’s increasing in America at a time trillions of dollars go for warmaking, corporate handouts, and other benefits for rich elites.

Profiteering from the Pentagon's Vast Wasteful Operations / Politics / US Military

By: Global_Research

Patrick Martin writes: According to reports by two major news organizations, the main payroll and accounting office of the Pentagon doles out tens of billions of dollars to contractors without any rigorous auditing or other financial controls, fueling a system of waste and profiteering.

Under conditions where politicians of both the Democratic and Republican parties claim there is “no money” to maintain even the inadequate level of social services currently provided by the federal government, the US military squanders vast sums in support of the global operations of American imperialism.

Orwell's Frankenfoods Are New Normal / Politics / Food Crisis

By: Andrew_McKillop

THE NUCLEAR SOLUTION

The history of “recycled” nuclear wastes as military DU munitions is relatively well known and dates to the early 1970s. NATO analysts had reported that the Soviet military had developed armor plating for tanks that NATO ammunition could not penetrate. The quest to develop high-penetration anti-tank munitions quickly focused very dense (higher than lead) uranium wastes from “civil” nuclear power, that are also pyrotechnic or quickly inflammable and explosive on impact, and are easily machined into complex nose cones and sheaths for shells and projectiles. Since that time, DU munitions have grown to be held and used by nearly all major armed forces of the planet. Military analysts identify about 78 nations presently possessing DU munitions, that now cover a huge range of ordnance types and sizes, including anti-building, anti-aircraft and anti-personnel weapons.

The Neocons Want Iranian Blood, Will the Comply? / Politics / US Politics

By: LewRockwell

Patrick J. Buchanan writes: When, after the massacres at Newtown and the Washington Navy Yard, Republicans refused to outlaw the AR-15 rifle or require background checks for gun purchasers, we were told the party had committed suicide by defying 90 percent of the nation.

When Republicans rejected amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, we were told the GOP had just forfeited its future.

Genetically Modified Politicians Battle to Persuade the Public to Accept GM Food / Politics / GM Foods

By: Global_Research

Lesley Docksey writes: The official UK government policy on genetically modified (GM) crops is “precautionary, evidence-based and sensitive to public concerns”. Who are they kidding?

My heart always sinks when, listening to the BBC’s Today programme, someone from the Department for International Development starts talking about the “international food crisis”, and the starving people in all those poor undeveloped countries (the ones we helped to pauper with our empire building). I know for sure that in the next day or two, in the top political slot on Today, I’ll be listening to Environment Minister Owen Paterson telling us that we must embrace GM technology if we want to feed the world. It normally coincides with his giving a speech or two about the wonders of GM crops and food, full of outrageous and unscientific statements. Prime Minister David Cameron chips in with a comment to the media about how Britain is losing the scientific race to feed the world.

Monsanto, the TPP, and Global Food Dominance / Politics / GM Foods

By: Ellen_Brown

“Control oil and you control nations,” said US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in the 1970s.  ”Control food and you control the people.”

Global food control has nearly been achieved, by reducing seed diversity with GMO (genetically modified) seeds that are distributed by only a few transnational corporations. But this agenda has been implemented at grave cost to our health; and if the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) passes, control over not just our food but our health, our environment and our financial system will be in the hands of transnational corporations.

Thanksgiving: A National Day of Mourning / Politics / US Politics

By: Robert_Singer

Thanksgiving commemorates the successful harvest and the time Pilgrims gathered to give thanks. The Pilgrims shared a feast with their Native American neighbors, who had made possible their survival in the New England wilderness.

Writers and textbook publishers of American history have generally omitted or, if mentioned at all, glossed over historic accounts of genocide and inhumane treatment of American Indian populations.

U.S. Iran Nuclear Deal Regional Reverberations / Politics / Middle East

By: STRATFOR

What was unthinkable for many people over many years happened in the early hours of Nov. 24 in Geneva: The United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran struck a deal. After a decadelong struggle, the two reached an accord that seeks to ensure that Iran's nuclear program remains a civilian one. It is a preliminary deal, and both sides face months of work to batten down domestic opposition, build convincing mechanisms to assure compliance and unthread complicated global sanctions.

A Thanksgiving Reality / Politics / Social Issues

By: Walter_Brasch

Segued into a 10-second afterthought, smothered by 60-second Christmas commercials, is the media acknowledgement of Thanksgiving, which nudges us into a realization of all we are thankful for.

But the usual litany, even with the omnipresent pictures of the less fortunate being fed by the more fortunate, doesn’t list well this year. Our thanks seem to be at best half-hearted or at least insensitive and shallow.

TEDDY ROOSEVELT: US Statism’s Seductive Founder / Politics / US Politics

By: Stephen_Merrill

A recent work sought to identify and rank in a way the few US Presidents over the past century plus whose policies led to greater freedom in the economy.  That list did not include, Theodore Roosevelt, TR, the trust-busting lion and hero of San Juan Hill.

To the consternation of many, the work ranked two Democrats, Jimmy Carter and Harry Truman, as possibly the greatest presidential freedom fighters for the economy since 1900.  Supporters of several presidents claim other names should have been included, Teddy Roosevelt for one, Ronald Reagan for another and even Bill Clinton.

Zombie Government Armed with Accounting Tricks Bailed out Zombie Banking Industry / Politics / Credit Crisis Bailouts

By: Casey_Research

By Doug French, Contributing Editor

On March 16, 2009, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), a private-sector organization that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards in the US, turned the stock market around and at the same time motivated banks to become the worst slumlords and neighbors imaginable.

Most people believe accounting is conservative, the rules cut and dried. Accountants make economists look frivolous. But accountants are people too, and FASB succumbed to pressure from Capitol Hill in the wake of the 2008 financial crash.
