The stock market indices had an interesting, volatile day. The day started out with a big gap at the opening, had a very sharp, pullback retest midmorning, then a 5-wave advance that was much stronger on the Nasdaq 100 than the S&P 500, they pulled back, bounced around, held support, and closed positive on the Nasdaq 100, but the S&P 500 closed flat on the day.

Net on the day, the Dow was up 27.86 at 19,890.87. The S&P 500 bounced off the 2272 level to 2282, and closed up just .68 at 2279.55. The Nasdaq 100 went from 5130 to 5159, and close up 35.92 at 5152.69.

Advance-declines were about 124 issues negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and about 50 issues negative on the Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 21 to 16 negative on New York, total volume of 3 3/4 billion shares traded. The Nasdaq traded 2.1 billion shares and had an 11 to 10 positive volume ratio.

Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, after a big gap up in the morning, the indices came down hard, bounced around several times, held support, and finished much stronger on the Nasdaq 100 than the S&P 500, the Nasdaq 100 finishing solidly in the plus column, while the S&P 500 finished flat.
