One of the most obvious benefits of fleet management software, thanks to its in-built, real time GPS fleet tracking capabilities, is providing managers with an overview of the location of every vehicle within their company. This overview should be designed to give the managers the ability to alter a driver’s route wherever necessary. For example, in the event of an accident, drivers can be diverted to ensure they reach their destination safely and on time. Whatever software you choose, be sure it assists you in making these logistical decisions by utilizing the GPS location of each vehicle and the effectiveness of their route ahead.

Asset Maintenance

For companies with a larger fleet to oversee and maintain, it is crucial that the possibility of a vehicle flying under the radar is eliminated. Fleet management software should assist in this aspect by providing regular, in-depth diagnostic breakdowns of the vehicles during their day-to-day working. Built into this should be the capability of flagging any anomalies to the fleet manager, thereby ensuring that every possible problem is detected and rectified before it becomes a disruption to your company’s services.

Driver Management

As well as providing diagnostics on the vehicles, the software should also provide real-time updates on the vehicle activity and any abnormalities within this. Shipment Management

For businesses that plan to utilize fleet management software to assist in the delivery of their products, it is crucial that the chosen software is built to compliment the management of their shipments. For example, with the aforementioned GPS tracking, the software would ideally be able to analyze the route that will be taken by a driver for a delivery and calculate the estimated costs of said route. The software should also record and track the products that have been shipped, which helps to improve inventory management.

Security and Safety Management

As well as the benefits to the company and customer, it is also important that the software you choose is built to benefit the drivers within your employment. Fleet management software offers improved safety and security for your employees, through the use of dash cam footage, real time accident detection, and road hazard alerts, to name a few. This gives the driver the peace of mind to start their route without worrying about what lies ahead, knowing that any necessary diversions or alterations will be planned out for them.
