Many Key Resources Have No Security of Supply / Commodities / Resources Investing

By: Richard_Mills

The truth, in regards to the world's mineral resources, is that we in the western developed countries are not in control of supply. The map below was posted on reddit.com. While interesting it does not reveal the enormity facing the western world in regards to Security of Supply for many of our key minerals.

"The spectre of resource insecurity has come back with a vengeance. The world is undergoing a period of intensified resource stress, driven in part by the scale and speed of demand growth from emerging economies and a decade of tight commodity markets. Poorly designed and short-sighted policies are also making things worse, not better. Whether or not resources are actually running out, the outlook is one of supply disruptions, volatile prices, accelerated environmental degradation and rising political tensions over resource access." American Glory Days, Made in America Again Needs Resource Extraction and Agriculture / Commodities / Resources Investing

By: Richard_Mills

Gus Gunn, of the British Geological Survey, has identified three main factors behind the steep rise in commodity demand and prices:

• Urbanization that is accompanied by a rise in the standard of living. By 2025, nearly 2.5 billion Asians will live in cities, accounting for almost 54 percent of the world's urban population. India and China alone will account for more than 62 percent of Asian urban population growth and 40 percent of global urban population growth from 2005 to 2025

Commodity Investing in a Time of Rising Resource Nationalism / Commodities / Resources Investing

By: Roger_Conrad

Best Financial Markets Analysis Article“Ever-deeper, ever-further” has been the mantra of major natural resource producers over the past decade, as emerging Asia has replaced the US as the world’s single biggest consumer and driven demand to new heights.

This unprecedented expansion hasn’t always driven up costs. In fact, major producers of everything from copper to platinum are uncovering some of the richest reserves yet seen with their massive investment. That’s helped keep a lid on companies’ overall production costs, which in turn has aided further investment. It has, however, elevated resource nationalism risk to heights not seen since the 1970s, when countries such as Chile expropriated assets from investors domestic and foreign.

Stock Market Repeating Itself, TSX Venture Composite Index / Commodities / Resources Investing

By: The_Gold_Report

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe resource markets have weathered some death defying ups and downs lately. But Michael Ballanger, senior investment advisor with Toronto-based Union Securities, is looking for a renewed period of growth in the TSX Venture Composite Index. Is it too soon to see such a heady rebound? In this exclusive interview with The Gold Report, Ballanger makes his case for history repeating itself.

The Gold Report: The TSX Venture Composite Index reached a bottom of around 1,300 in October after it more than tripled from 2009 to early 2011. Albania Economy Surges with Canadian Resource Investment / Commodities / Resources Investing

By: Submissions

G. Joel Chury writes: According to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Albania’s economy increased during the first 9 months of the year, fueled by increased exports of goods and resources. Though the country still has a long road ahead of it in terms of living up to its growth potential, and before it joins the EU in 2015, this emerging economy is being stoked by outsiders, including a pair of first-movers from Canada looking to bring new methods of development to old resource discoveries.
