By: Money_Morning
Tony Daltorio writes: Everyone likes a good comeback story where large obstacles are overcome on the way to a favorable outcome.
And we're about to see one in the investment world...
The shale gas boom seemed to be a disaster for the natural gas industry as the price of natural gas plummeted over a five-tear period to reach a multi-year low below $2 per million BTU in April 2012.

How Exporting US Natural Gas Will Transform Global Energy Markets / Companies / Natural Gas
By: The_Energy_Report
Here's the situation: North America is swimming in cheap natural gas, whereas international markets are thirsty for it and paying a premium. Now that the DOE is beginning to approve LNG export permits, North American producers have major incentive to drill, baby, drill. To get an expert perspective on the coming LNG supply shift, The Energy Report turned to Cantor Fitzgerald Analyst Sam Wahab, who keeps tabs on global oil and gas developments from his base in London. This is a must-read interview for anyone who wants to profit from a potentially massive shift in natural gas fundamentals.

Gazprom Backs Down And Cuts Its Prices / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Andrew_McKillop
THE SLIPPERY SLOPE - FOR GAZPROM
Gazprom has a deserved reputation for price gouging, but only little different from Qatar, Norway and Algeria, all of which have endlessly delayed biting the bullet and accepting to cut gas export prices to Europe, by abandoning "oil indexation" of prices. As some economists say, how would it be if world wheat prices were "indexed" to cotton, rice, or iPhone prices? Would that be "rational" or as Gazprom, and Qatargas, Statoil and Sonatrach have said in the recent past, "transparent"?

These Natural Gas Stocks Will Bounce Back As Demand Rises / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Money_Morning
Larry D. Spears writes:
Now is the perfect time to invest in natural gas stocks.
To many investors, that may seem counterintuitive. After all, natural gas has been the red-headed stepchild of energy for years.
But prices for this plentiful alternative fuel are just beginning to turn higher after a four-year slide that saw values slashed by more than 80%.

Foreign Investing Driving New Era of Profit Opportunities for U.S. Gas Companies / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Money_Morning
David Zeiler writes: U.S. natural gas companies have found a convenient new way to boost their profits - by drawing in overseas companies to help fund their development projects.
The maneuver was illustrated yesterday (Tuesday), when two large foreign companies bought big stakes in major U.S. shale projects.
French oil major Total S.A. (NYSE ADR: TOT) said it would invest $2.3 billion in Chesapeake Energy Corp.'s (NYSE: CHK) Utica Shale operation in eastern Ohio. Within hours, China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (NYSE ADR: SNP), also known as Sinopec, announced a $2.2 billion deal to buy a 30% stake in five Devon Energy Corp. (NYSE: DVN) shale projects.

Cheap Natural Gas Makes Old Technology Profitable / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Money_Morning
David Zeiler writes:
Although natural gas has become plentiful and cheap in the United States, using it in ways that would make it a practical alternative to petroleum, such as vehicle fuel, has proven challenging.
It's not that it can't be done. German scientists figured out how to convert natural gas to liquid petroleum products back in the mid-1920s.

A Natural Gas Company Floating in Profits / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Money_Morning
David Fessler writes:
Australia, like America, is awash in natural gas. But Australia's gas isn't conveniently located under terra firma, near existing pipelines. We have that luxury and advantage.
Most of the gas Down Under is in giant underwater deposits, located more than 100 miles from Australia's shores. Developing some of its largest fields, far from any landmass, has been a problem without a solution... until now.

Investors Bet on Low-Cost High-Volume Natural Gas Shale Plays / Companies / Natural Gas
By: The_Energy_Report
Stifel & Nicholas Oil and Gas Analyst Amar Arif believes cheap natural gas prices shouldn't keep you from making cash in the gas space. Arif says it's all about companies with production growth in low-cost shale basins. "Find the companies that are in these low-cost basins so that you know they have a good margin, regardless of whether gas is forecast at $4, $5, or $6. . .don't make a bet on the commodity, which is what we're seeing. Gas doesn't have positive drivers behind it. You want to make a bet on the volume without diluting the equity," says Arif, who provides some of those names and the reasons behind them in this exclusive interview with The Energy Report.

The Utica, An Emerging Canadian Shale Gas Play / Companies / Natural Gas
By: Richard_Mills
Shale gas is natural gas that has been generated and trapped within the natural pores and fractures of shale. This natural gas has been accumulating because of the breakdown of high levels of organic carbon or kerogen within the shale. The right temperature, pressure and a lot of time - over millions of years - is needed to produce gas. Shale plays can hold enormous amounts of gas and once production has been stabilized gas wells from shales tend to have low decline rates and long production lives.
