Dow Forecasting Neural Nets, Crossing the Rubicon With Three High Risk Chinese Tech Stocks / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Dear Reader

This is the concluding 2nd part of my recent extensive analysis (Part 1) focused on my continuing pursuit to gradually off load my stock analysis processing power onto neural nets, where part 2 looks at data preprocessing being critical in arriving at neural networks that output useful predictions as opposed to nonsense.

And then I literally crossed the rubicon in considering investing in three high risk Chinese tek giants given their relatively attractive valuations following their 2021 stock price blood bath in comparison to US tech stocks being driven to bubble mania valuation peaks.

Consistent performance makes waste a good place to buy stocks / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Submissions

Stocks can turn out to be a valuable part of your investment portfolio. Owning shares in different companies can help build savings, stay ahead of inflation, getting a sense of control over your financial future. The key to investing is figuring out how much the industry will grow and affect society. Practically, you have to determine the competitive advantage of any given company and, most importantly, the durability of that advantage. These companies are closely connected to the economy, meaning that their business volume can fall abruptly during recessions. Let’s not forget that the COVID-19 pandemic is pushing the global economy into a recession.

If waste and recycling isn’t among your top picks for buying stocks, it should be. Surging commodity prices provide a significant boost for the largest publicly traded waste and recycling haulers. Trash can turn out to be the perfect place to look for opportunities. Waste management is a capital-intensive, highly regulated, necessary service. And it generates cash flow. From investors to governments and companies, just about everyone these days is concerned about the ever-growing waste problem. The waste and recycling industry is a viable and important investment option.

Hyper Growth Stocks - This billionaire is now using one of our top strategies / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Stephen_McBride

By Justin Spittler : Has billionaire Dan Loeb been reading the RiskHedge Report?

Loeb climbed to the top of Wall Street by achieving remarkable success as an “activist investor.”

In a nutshell, Loeb would buy large stakes in struggling companies… replace management… and make other adjustments (like cutting a dividend) to turn around the company.

That’s how Loeb amassed a $4 billion fortune.

Most people with that much success wouldn’t change their approach. If it isn’t broke, why fix it, right?

But Loeb recently made a huge change in how he invests…

How "Hot" Meme Stock Market Ideas Can Burn Investors / Companies / Investing 2021

By: EWI

The Meme Stock Index sees a 36% decline since January

On July 30, this headline appeared on a well-known investment website:

It's Definitely Possible to Make a Fortune Off Meme Stocks

And, it's definitely true that many investors, especially newbies, have tried.

As you probably know, "meme" stocks may be loosely defined as stocks that become a white-hot focus of interest due to social media hype. The price of these shares can skyrocket within a short period of time. However, as you might imagine, these highly speculative issues can just as quickly turn southward.

How Alejandro Betancourt Lopez Transformed Hawkers Sunglasses Into a Market Leader / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Sumeet_Manhas

The co-founders of the Hawkers sunglasses brand had already achieved a significant amount of monetary success during its first three years of operation from 2013 to 2016. However, they realized they would need to seek outside funding to stay ahead of the bills and expand their brand beyond their home country of Spain.

The Hawkers team experimented with Kickstarter campaigns in late 2015 and early 2016 with decent success. Seeking approximately $118,000 in United States currency ($100,000 in euros), the team raised almost $225,000 from 9,086 supporters. Alex Moreno, David Moreno, Pablo Sanchez, and Iñaki Soriano, the brothers and friends who originally launched Hawkers, certainly appreciated the support of their backers. They simply realized they would need to go much higher with their funding efforts to meet their business goals.

I Stumbled Across a Massive Investing Opportunity in a Parking Lot / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Stephen_McBride

By Justin Spittler : One of the #1 ways to improve your investing returns is to simply:

Take notice of your immediate world.

Take the metaverse, for example—the new 3D, immersive internet that’s becoming more popular by the minute. If you have kids or grandkids, there’s a good chance they’re playing in the metaverse as I type. In fact, more than half of American children are taking part in the metaverse!

This is a powerful piece of information. It reminds me of the moneymaking opportunity in video game stocks in the ‘90s.

Netflix - FAANG a Buy, Sell or Hold?, CME Black Swans Chasing Value in Biotech Stocks / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Nadeem_Walayat

I am often asked to take a look at Netflix as being one of the FAANG stocks. However Netflix the streaming service that has made it into many households during the pandemic including our own has never been on my radar because it is not an AI stock, Nevertheless enough patrons have requested I take a look at it then so I will starting with the fundamental state of the corporation that has seen huge growth during the pandemic though despite this growth in revenues and earnings the stock still trades on a lofty PE of 53.4! Whilst it is the beyond the scope of this analysis to generate a EC ratio, nevertheless the PE of 53.4 IS VERY HIGH!

The key metric where Netflix is is concerned is how fast it's subscriber base is growing for it is that which will generate future revenues and profits growth as new subscribers pay their monthly fees and for that we have this chart generated by Netflix themselves -

WESTERN DIGITAL WDC Stock Trend Analysis - CHIA! - Risk 1 / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The first on my list is a tech stock that I mentioned in passing in my last analysis Western Digital (WDC). founded in 1970 with it's core business being hard drives and memory chips where WD has made a brand name for itself in manufacturing reliable hard drives both internal and increasingly external high capacity drives, in fact I own more than a dozen WD drives with my latest addition being a 28tb My book Duo that was busily being filled with Chia plots that I will probably delete in the not too distant future when they fail to yield any Chia coins. So if the existing fundamentals of manufacturing quality hardware for the PC market was not enough then the CHIA crypto mania of farming Chia plots on ones hard drives that has resulted in an ongoing mad rush to buy up the worlds supply of external drives so that crypto maniacs can waste time, energy and resources trying to win a couple of CHIA coins by plotting farms that span tens of terabytes of storage per individual Chia farmer.

AMC Is the Best-Performing Stock in America: Don’t Buy It / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Stephen_McBride

Here we go again. The stock of movie theater chain AMC Entertainment (AMC) just skyrocketed out of nowhere, jumping as much as 127% in one day earlier this month.

This would be an extraordinary move for any stock. For AMC, it seems downright crazy. According to CNBC, movie ticket sales in the US fell 80% in 2020. AMC lost $4.6 billion last year, thanks largely to COVID.

But AMC was bleeding cash long before the pandemic. In 2019, it lost $149 million. That’s because AMC’s core business of selling movie tickets is being permanently disrupted by a devastating one-two punch:

Is it a Good Idea to Trade Penny Stocks - The Pros and Cons / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Sumeet_Manhas

The world’s financial market is continuing to evolve at a rapid pace, both in terms of trading volumes and the range of assets available to investors.

While commodities and forex trading are amongst the most popular assets, penny stocks also offer potential value to investors. These are known as relatively high-risk securities that boast a small market capitalisation value, while they’re amongst the most accessible assets in the financial market.

Are You Invested in America’s “Two-Hour Boom” Fast Shipping Stocks? / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Stephen_McBride

“It would have to sell every book being sold today to justify its stock price.”

This ended up becoming one of the most laughable things ever said about Amazon (AMZN). And this line isn’t pulled out of some freebie city newspaper… it’s from a 60 Minutes special back in 1999.

Amazon’s stock price had surged 4,500% over the past two years. The internet shopping pioneer’s sales were soaring triple digits. CBS and 60 Minutes thought it was one giant bubble. Take a look at Amazon’s stock since then. How did a show that prides itself on facts and analysis get is so, so wrong?

Einvestment Fund: What You Need To Know About Investments / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Mark_Adan

Investing is very crucial because it helps your finances and your future. It helps you generate more income and also boosts your wealth. Having an investment will secure your retirement period. A financial investment is an instrument or asset purchased for a future resell. It will then be put up for a resale at a higher price than the bring price to get additional income.

Alternatively, the asset can be used to generate income for the investor directly. In factors such as rental income and dividends, the investor will get direct returns from the asset. There are no accurate transaction criteria to define an investment. However, any operation that is undertaken to create more money is an investment.

AI Tech Stocks Investing Portfolio Buying Levels and Valuations 2021 Explained / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Nadeem_Walayat

My last look at AI stocks buying levels late November 2020 had some of the must own AI stocks trading at high valuations for instance Apple was trading on an EC of 76 against a target of 50, Nvidia on 173 against about 100! Whilst IBM was dirt cheap on -3, so I could not resist buying more where I am sure several years from now many investors will be kicking themselves for not having had the foresight to pick up IBM when it was trading so cheaply. Next I picked up some more Google as numero uno and Facebook given it's continuing VR market success despite the dying lame stream media lobbying governments to get the tech giants to share ad revenues with them. And I also sought to pick up some Amazon on trading below $3000.

As well as looking to pick up some more AMD given its moderating valuation in response to unlimited demand for it's CPU's. With Nvidia still a little pricey to prompt fresh buying despite the success of it's RTX 3000 series of GPU's that literally allows Nvidia to PRINT MONEY! Sell as many GPU processors as it can produce (most Nvidia GPU's are made by third parties using their GPU processors).

Why I’m Avoiding These “Bottle Rocket” Stocks Like GameStop / Companies / Investing 2021

By: Stephen_McBride

Should I be investing? What are the “hot” stocks? How much money do I need? Stephen! HELP!

My phone’s been lighting up over the past few weeks. Old friends from college who I haven’t talked to in years are texting me about stocks—for the first time ever. I’m not surprised. They’ve been seeing “GameStop short squeeze” and similar headlines plastered across their Facebook and Twitter feeds 24/7.

They’re intrigued. They’re confused. They want to know how they can get rich! One even asked if he should put $5,000 into GameStop (GME) after it had already surged a mind-boggling 1,900%. I told him not to touch it.

He would have gotten taken to the cleaners (and probably scared off from ever investing again). As you’ve probably seen, shares have fallen off a cliff recently, crashing 85%. Which would have shrunk his $5K into less than $600—in a matter of days.
