Precious Metals Could Decline Before their Next Attempt to Rally / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2021
By: Chris_Vermeulen
My team prepares Custom Valuations Index charts to understand how capital is being deployed in the global markets alongside US Dollar and Treasury Yields. The purpose of the Custom Index charts in this article is to provide better insight into and understanding of underlying capital movements in various market conditions. Recently, we discovered the Custom Index chart shares a keen alignment with Gold (and likely the general precious metals sector). Let’s explore our recent analysis to help readers understand what to expect next in precious metals.
Weekly custom valuations index chart
The first thing that caught my attention was the very clear decline in the weekly Custom Valuations Index recently, as can be seen in the chart below. The second peak on the Custom Valuations Index chart occurred on the week of August 3, 2020. Gold also peaked at this very same time. This alignment started an exploratory analysis of the Custom Valuations Index and the potential alignment with the precious metals sector.

The Dark Forces behind American Insurrectionists / Politics / US Politics
By: Dan_Steinbock
On January 6, 2021, a mob of white supremacists stormed the U.S. Capitol, presumably to overturn Trump's defeat. Their final goal may have involved assassinations of elected officials, however.
After the “failed insurrection,” dozens of the mob were found to be watch-listed in the FBI Terrorist Screening Database. Most are suspected white supremacists. But the ultimate goals of some may have been even darker.
In a court filing, federal prosecutors have targeted one of the mob’s most colorful figures, Jacob Anthony Chansley; the shirtless “QAnon Shaman” with a headdress of coyote skin and buffalo horns. "The intent of the Capitol rioters,” the prosecutors believe, “was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the US government.”

Intel Empire Fights Back with Rocket and Alder Lake! / Companies / AI
By: Nadeem_Walayat
Leaked benchmarks on the performance of Intel's 11th Gen rocket lake processors due to make an appears as early as March 2020 suggest that the Intel's slide into CPU market oblivion could soon be halted on at least core basis (especially important for gaming) that deliver a 30% leap over their 10th Gen processors. And even more importantly Intel BEATS AMD's BEST processor even when overclocked, the 5950x running at 4.9ghz by about 3%! Which IS what Intel should have done with it's 10th Gen processors! Still it looks like the Intel has finally read the writing on the wall and plowed a large chunk of it's cash mountain into trying to compete against AMD, though STILL stuck on the 14nm node!

4 Reasons for Coronavirus 2021 Hope / Economics / Coronavirus Depression
By: John_Mauldin
2021 may feel more like an extension of 2020 rather than a fresh start. But take heart—there is plenty of good news out there.
Here are four things to be hopeful about today:
First, we now have weapons against the coronavirus. The US has two approved vaccines. England, China and Russia have developed their own. Additional vaccines are under development and will likely be available later this year.
These will be game-changers if we manage to deploy them widely and quickly. Which, I admit, is a big “if.”

Apple M1 Chip Another Nail in Intel's Coffin - Top AI Tech Stocks 2021 / Companies / Apple
By: Nadeem_Walayat
Apples EC has rocketed higher to 76 up from 55. which on face value makes Apple an expensive stock to buy right now. However, when one actually looks under the hood at what's going on at Apple then one finds the reason why Apple has been bid up to such lofty levels, where it's current price even after the recent correction is more than double where the stock was trading during March. The answer lies in Apple's 2 year transition away from using former best buddy Intel's CPUs which has started off with a BANG following the launch of the the M1 Mac Book laptops just a few days ago. what's the M1? It's Apple ditching intel for it's ALL in one chip that includes a 8 core CPU, 8 core GPU, 16 core neural engine and memory all on one SOC die that is basically a souped up version of the A14 chips found in Pads and iphones.

Stock Market: Why You Should Prepare for a Jump in Volatility / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2020
By: EWI
This volatility indicator "has made a series of higher lows" -- and it's not a good sign
Stock market volatility is like a roller-coaster ride -- extreme ups and downs.
However, unlike thrill-seeking roller-coaster riders who often rise from their seats after the ride with a smile, investors often exit with a frown.
That's because extreme volatility after a stock rally often ends with prices much lower.
Having said that, many investors -- even professionals -- do not anticipate a jump in volatility right now.

It certainly was an incredible run – more than quadrupling in value in less than three months. Now we find ourselves in an early 2021 corrective phase which will end in either another Breakout/Rally attempt or an Excess Phase (Blow-off) Top. This article highlights both potential outcomes because at this stage it is difficult to determine a single high-probability outcome.
Before I continue, I urge readers to review our How To Spot The End Of An Excess Phase article from November 27, 2020. You can re-read it at www.thetechnicaltraders.com/how-to-spot-the-end-of-an-excess-phase-part-ii/. This is an excellent primer for the content of this current research article.

Silver Price 2021 Roadmap / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2021
By: The_Gold_Report
Peter Krauth, the editor of Silver Stock Investor, looks at silver's bull markets since the 1970s and discusses what he thinks lies ahead. There's no consensus on whether silver is in its second or third secular bull market since the 1970s. That's because people define bull markets in different ways.
But as I'll show you, it's not that important.
What we do know is that silver enjoyed a huge bull market from about 1971 until 1980, and then another major bull run from about 2001 until 2011.
Most secular bull markets run through a period, usually about half-ways on the time scale, where the commodity's price falls by about 50%, sometimes more. This is an observation by the legendary commodities investor Jim Rogers.

Why Biden Wants to Win the Fight for $15 Federal Minimum Wage / Politics / Wages
By: Patrick_Watson
President Joe Biden's pandemic relief plan proposes direct cash payments, enhanced unemployment benefits, vaccine funding, and help for state and local governments.
But Biden’s wish list has one unexpected item: a $15 federal minimum wage.
Labor advocates have been asking for this for years, and it’s no surprise a Democratic administration would try now. After all, the coronavirus has spread partly because so many low-wage workers have had to keep working in high-contact environments.
Raising the minimum wage won’t immediately fix that problem, so Congress might reject that part.

US Dollar Decline creates New Sector Opportunities to Trade / Currencies / US Dollar
By: Chris_Vermeulen
The weakness in the US Dollar, which initiated after the Covid-19 peak in March 2020, has entered an extended downward price trend which is nearing a key support level near 88.33. One key factor related to this trend is a weakness in the US Dollar, which means other foreign currencies become comparatively stronger. This transitional currency valuation phase creates an environment where localized foreign investments may become much more opportunistic than the US stock market/sectors if this US Dollar decline continues. Simply put, foreign investors will suddenly start to realize they are losing alpha in US Dollar based investments compared to stronger, foreign currency-based investments over time and move their capital to profit from the US Dollar’s decline.

NHS Recommends Oximeter Oxygen Sensor Monitors for Everyone 10 Months Late! / Politics / Coronavirus 2021
By: N_Walayat
To illustrate how incompetent Britain's government healthcare system, the NHS response to the chinese coronavirus pandemic has been is the fact that only now in late January 2021 is the NHS recommending that people who suspect they have coronavirus monitor their oxygen levels at home before becoming more seriously ill and calling an ambulance to take them to hospital. This is shocking, as something which was obvious from the outset that an respiratory illness demands that one monitors their oxygen levels which is why I and I presume many others bought such devices for less than £30 from Amazon some 10 months ago in March 2020. Rather than wait for medical establishment to give their go ahead some 10 months late in the final stages of the pandemic as this video illustrates.

DoorDash Has All the Makings of the “Next Amazon” / Companies / Tech Stocks
By: Stephen_McBride
Can Amazon Make It? That was the headline plastered on the front page of BusinessWeek magazine in July 2000.
Amazon’s future looked bleak after the tech bubble burst earlier that year. The online shopping pioneer was hemorrhaging cash, forcing it to cut 15% of its workforce. Top fund managers cut Amazon from their portfolios. And over the following year, its stock price sank from $105 to $5.
