Homeowners who are looking to improve the functionality of their windows are likely to come into contact with the phrase frosted window film, but what is frosted window film and how can it be used within a property? To help you make an informed decision on whether frosted window film is the right option for you and your property we have compiled the article below to explain what it actually is, how it can be used within commercial and residential properties and even how long you should be expecting it to last.

What is Frosted Window Film?
Frosted window film is a coating that can be applied to a glass surface or window in order to meet one of numerous solutions. The film itself blocks vision across both sides while still allowing a portion of light across, it can also be designed to meet bespoke designs to allow vision and light to flow freely through specific sections. This freedom of design has led to it becoming a mainstay for both commercial and residential properties with some businesses even using it as a client facing branding solution. Within residential properties you may find it being used within bathrooms due to its water and moisture resistance in order to add an extra layer of privacy.

What Makes It Popular?
The popularity of frosted window film stems from its versatility and simplicity of application. It also serves to provide an additional layer to windows and glass surfaces in turn making the glass sturdier and limiting the glass spread if it were to be damaged or smashed. While it does certainly have a range of benefits on offer, possibly the most important reason behind its popularity is that of its aesthetic charm. The classy glass look with the frosted accentuations make frosted window film a natural accompaniment to most properties.

How Long Does It Last?
The expected lifetime of frosted window film can depend very much on how well it has been installed, the amount and regularity of maintenance conducted since its application and even the intensity of the conditions it is being used in. A poor installation for example can cause premature peeling, cracking or forming of bubbles causing the film to deteriorate at an accelerated rate. A major element that can influence the longevity of your window film is also the harshness of the sunlight that the film is under strain from, while they are designed to comfortably filter large amounts of light if exposed to particularly strong sunlight for large periods of time, they may begin to show wear.
