Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleWhen will this rally top, when will there be sign of distribution. The truth is the SP500 has been a freight training to higher highs. Stock Market Consolidating... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Jack_Steiman

There's nothing wrong with the market consolidating. The consolidating would be even more beneficial if it did this for another month. However, it's unlikely that it will. As we've seen, this market has been tough to sell short-term. There are very "itchy" buyers, once the market does any type of small pullback. People want to get into the market that has been in before, and people want in the market that has missed it altogether. Some people just have a real inclination to be in the market as interest rates are simply too low for anyone to do anything else with their dollars. Why fight the tape is what they're thinking. While it seems unlikely from a fundamental point of view, the market understands something we don't for the time being. The energy of the stock market is a lot smarter than our collective intelligence. Let the market do the talking.

Examining the Top S&P Components / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Mike_Paulenoff

I have embarked on a project to constantly view and analyze the major sectors of the S&P in an effort to get a grasp of where the potential weakness is showing up within the SPX itself.

I've looked at the major SPDR ETFs in 9 major sectors (leaving out telecom, which does not show me much), and examined the top 10 components of those ETFs.

Stock Market Investors Waiting.... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Jack_Steiman

It seems to me, based on the volume trends I'm seeing, that the majority of folks are waiting on a big pullback to occur first before getting back into the market. Or, they may be waiting to get into the market for the first time, because they've missed the entire rally off the lows. It's that waiting attitude, and low bull-bear spread, that gives me real hope that the market will hang in there a bit longer than most expect, or the pullback won't be nearly as hard, or severe, as the masses think. But they're still missing the rally as they will wait too long once the selling begins, thinking it will get worse.

Stock Market SPX Uptrend Extends / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Tony_Caldaro

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleA good performance by US and European markets as the US broke through resistance at SPX 1378 and rallied to 1406 on friday. For the week the SPX/DOW were +2.40%, and the NDX/NAX were +2.35%. Asian markets gained 0.8%, European markets gained 2.9%, and the DJ World index gained 1.9%. Economic indicators for the week were solidly to the upside. On the uptick: retail sales, business inventories, export prices, the NY and Philly FED, the CPI/PPI, capacity utilization, and the weekly jobless claims plus the WLEI improved. On the downtick: the budget deficit expanded, while import prices and consumer sentiment declined. Overall it was quite a positive week for stocks and the economy. Next week we get an update on the Housing market and Leading indicators.

Stock Market Bulls Bears Status Quo... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Jack_Steiman

The way things are with the bulls right now makes it tough for the bears to deal with. But honestly folks, there isn't much to add to what's been going on for some time now. The market has two great things going for it, both powerful and potentially long lasting. One is potentially longer than the other, but both are in great shape at the moment.

Stock Markets Face A Second Wall of Worry! / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Sy_Harding

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt’s an old market maxim that the stock market often climbs a wall of worry.

In the current rally the S&P 500 has gained 29% since its October low, and the wall of worry it climbed has been impressive. Reports in October showed the economic slowdown in the first half of the year worsened in July and August even as the 2nd half got underway. By November the eurozone debt crisis and fears of a potential default by Greece, and an ugly aftermath, were dominating headlines.

Europe Stock Market Recovery / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Zeal_LLC

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe world’s stock markets are increasingly interrelated.  The psychology of traders, which drives most short-term price action, is continuously shaped by the nonstop torrents of global newsflow.  So even Americans can no longer afford to ignore what is going on in overseas markets.  And the influence of European stock markets in particular is large and growing, making their recovery well worth watching.

By: Chris_Ciovacco

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleAs shown below, the market is currently being carried by tech, retail/consumer discretionary, and banks. These sectors do have a big impact on the daily movement in the S&P 500 Index - so gains can continue, but we would prefer to see leadership broaden in the coming days and weeks.

Stocks Bull Market Discussion.... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Jack_Steiman

This has been one fascinating move up in what is undeniably a bull market. It's been more of a grind up most recently, and that's a good place to start this discussion. Just four weeks ago we had a bull-bear spread of just under 30%. That's getting dangerously close to complacency. Any time it's over 30%, especially when it hits 35%, we have to be on guard for a very powerful pullback. Understandable, as we need to lose the momentum as things are just too frothy. My concerns were laid to rest over the past month as the grind in the market served to bring down those feel good emotions throughout the market place. It appears the masses were expecting a very big pullback and went south on the market in terms of their short-term thinking.

Banks and Homebuilder Stocks Showing Impressive Strength / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Chris_Ciovacco

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleFinancial stocks had been treading water relative to the S&P 500 for the past six weeks. That changed late yesterday after J.P. Morgan announced a dividend increase and stock buyback program.

While the chart below looks complex, the concepts are easy to understand. The chart shows the performance of financial stocks relative to the S&P 500 Index. Here are the key takeaways for investors:

Stock Market Volatility, Trouble In Paradise / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Tony_Pallotta

A chart is considered good when you do not have to add any commentary to make a point. The following is one such candidate.

Below is a chart of the spread between the volatility skew and the vix compared to the SPX. For those new to skew it simply measures the distribution of option implied volatility. When speculators price in tail events they buy out of the money options which "skews" or shifts the distribution of volatility from a normal bell curve.

Current Stock Push Has Hurdles To Clear / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Chris_Ciovacco

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe rally off the lows of last week has some work to do before it becomes convincing. While the longer-term outlook remains favorable from a technical perspective, the conviction from buyers needs to pick up in the short-term.

When Williams %R, which measures momentum, fails to clear -20 during a rally, the odds of a retest of the recent lows increase. As the orange boxes show below, numerous markets have not yet seen Wm %R clear -20. This is not a big deal, but we would like to see it cleared up before investing additional cash. Gains lasting one or two days could easily clear these conditions.

Stock Market More Sideways Consolidation Before A New High? / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Andre_Gratian

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleSPX: Very Long-term trend - The very-long-term cycles are down and, if they make their lows when expected (after this bull market is over) there will be another steep and prolonged decline into late 2014. It is probable, however, that the steep correction of 2007-2009 will have curtailed the full downward pressure potential of the 120-yr cycle.

SPX: Intermediate trend - The intermediate uptrend is still intact, but a short-term top is forming.

Fed On Deck... Jobs In Line... Stock Market Strength Continues... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Jack_Steiman

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt seems over and over there's build up to a report that's going to make a huge difference in what takes place in the stock market. It could be the ISM Manufacturing Report. After that, we hear about the NY State index, or the Chicago PMI. Then we get the news on the big jobs report, and in between, week after week, on Thursday, we get the jobless claims report. We get durable goods, etc. Some of the reports are far from great.

Stock Market Affected By... / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2012

By: Submissions

Mark Blair writes:    The stock market is affected, short-, mid-, and long-term, by The Things That People Do. Sometimes those things are riots and revolutions. My thesis is that, as things go from bad to worse, people will indulge themselves in these pastimes, and that will impact negatively on the markets.
