Why You Should Buy Trailer Park Stocks / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

10,000 baby boomers retire every day.

But retirement won’t mean endless rounds of golf or trips to Tuscany for a lot of these folks, who are now 55–75 years old.

In fact, retirement will lower the living standards of 40% of boomers, according to The Wall Street Journal. That translates to a lifestyle downgrade for 15 million American households.

It gets worse: One in three boomers has zero money saved for retirement. Zilch. Nothing. And 6 in 10 have less than $10,000.

Then there’s the debt problem. The average boomer is $99,000 in debt, according to the Wharton School.

Why Fractional Shares Don’t Make Sense / Personal_Finance / Investing 2019

By: Jared_Dillian

Charles Schwab wants to offer investors the ability to trade fractional shares of stock. You know, in case you don’t have enough money for one share of stock.

I oppose this, because as you all know, I am the Grinch who wants to take Christmas from all the Whos down in Whoville.

I’m sure some people will say that about me. I am accustomed to it. Let’s rationalize this.

The average stock is about $30.

This Is the Best Time to Load Up on These 3 Value Stocks / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

Have you checked the returns on your dividend-paying stocks lately?

If so, you should like what you see.

See, most value stocks also pay dividends. And value stocks have been on an incredible run over the last month. They’ve outperformed growth stocks by 9%, according to Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

This isn’t normal. Value stocks haven’t outpaced growth stocks by this wide of a margin since 2010. And this is probably just the start.

Once they break ahead like this, value stocks usually outperform growth stocks for another nine months. This pattern has held up around 75% of the time since 1986.

Those are pretty good odds, making now the perfect time to load up on value stocks. Three in particular…

This Little-Known Class of Stocks Will Thrive as Rates Go Down and Volatility Up / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

An entire class of high-yield stocks just got a big boost.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell announced last Wednesday that the central bank will cut interest rates by 0.25%.

But we expected this. Investors had already priced in a 100% probability that the Fed would cut rates, according to global brokerage CME Group.

This is the second rate cut in the last three months. But it’s only the beginning.

As I’ll explain shortly, I expect the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates two more times this year.

Netflix’s Worst Nightmare Is Your Great Opportunity / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Stephen_McBride

Did you know Queen Elizabeth ll has her own Youtube channel?

Every year since 1957, she’d get on cable TV to address her nation.

But in 2007, the Queen did what no monarch had ever done. She set herself up on Youtube.

Cable TV is clearly dying. Even an 81-year-old monarch knew it back in 2007!

Those who saw this coming early on made fortunes...

The 60/40 Stocks Portfolio Is Riskier Than Ever / Portfolio / Investing 2019

By: John_Mauldin

As investors we have to make assumptions about the future. We know they will likely prove wrong, but something has to guide our asset allocation decisions.

Many long-term investors assume stocks will give them 6–8% real annual returns if they simply buy and hold long enough.

Pension fund trustees hire consultants to reassure them of this “fact,” along with similar interest rate and bond forecasts, and then make investment and benefit decisions.

Baby Boomers Are the Worst Investors in the World / Personal_Finance / Investing 2019

By: Jared_Dillian

Baby boomers, man.

Before I begin, a good rule of thumb for anything I write: don’t take anything personally.

Baby Boomers are the worst investors in the world.

I have seen it with my own two eyes. They got gorked up on dot-com stocks in 1999, then got rinsed. They got gorked up on stocks again in 2007, then got rinsed.

They are gorked up on stocks again.

There’s Only One Group of Stocks a Sane Investor Would Buy Now / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

Fear of missing out is a dangerous drug.

And right now, it’s luring investors in.

Investors know US stocks have gone up nearly 200% over the past decade—and are now near all-time highs. They know this is the longest bull market in US history.

At the same time, they’re watching other people make money and thinking, “I need to get in on this.”

Problem is, investors are piling into a very expensive—and risky—market.

That includes $14.4 billion during a single week in June. It was the largest inflow of money in nearly two years.

Unfortunately, history shows a lot of these people are setting themselves up to buy high and sell low.

I’ll share some exceptions in a bit.

3 Stocks You Should Own When the Fed Cuts Rates Next Week / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

Looks like an interest rate cut could come as early as next week.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell hinted at lower rates earlier this month.

Now investors are pricing in a 100% probability that the Fed will lower interest rates when it meets next week, according to global brokerage company CME Group.

This would be the first rate cut since December 2008, when the Fed cut rates to effectively zero and kept them there for seven years.

The Fed started raising rates in late 2015. Then it pumped the brakes after the stock market fell 20% at the end of 2018.

This Tobacco Stock Is a Big Winner from E-Cigarette Bans / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

In late June, San Francisco banned e-cigarette sales completely. That means no brick and mortar sales. And no e-cigarette deliveries for online purchases.

Many cities already restrict vaping and e-cigarette sales. But San Francisco is the first major US city to ban sales outright.

Granted, it’s a cultural and political outlier. But other cities are already considering similar laws. So this looks like the start of a bigger trend that could weigh heavily on certain tobacco companies.

Despite this thread, tobacco companies are still a great, recession-proof investment. And there’s one tobacco stock that will benefit from the crackdown on e-cigs big time.

Investing Today Is All About Predicting What Trump Wants / Stock-Markets / Investing 2019

By: Jared_Dillian

Trump is the most polarizing figure of all time.

If you say something good about him, half of people will hate you. If you say something bad about him, the other half will hate you.

It is a no-win situation. So financial writers, myself included, never write about him.

But that’s dumb! Donald J. Trump is the biggest driver of financial markets in the world. Hands down. How can you not write about him?

So here is what we are going to do.

These Three Stocks Love Low Interest Rates / Companies / Investing 2019

By: Robert_Ross

Looks like the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates soon.

Sure, the Fed announced it was leaving interest rates put last week. But I think the Fed will take this one step further and cut rates in the near future.

The Fed lowers interest rates when it thinks the economy is weak. This makes it cheaper for businesses to borrow money and employ more people.

And we’re already seeing signs of a slowing economy.

When the economy slips into a recession, which I expect to happen in the next year or so, the Federal Reserve will no doubt lower interest rates—just like it’s done after every recession since 1950.

Buffett Mistake Costs Him $4.3 Billion This Year—Here’s What Every Investor Can Learn from It / Companies / Investing 2019

Even the best investors have bad days.

Warren Buffett is no exception. In February, he watched one of his biggest acquisitions quickly sour.

I’m talking about Kraft Heinz, an American food giant that makes everything from ketchup to Oscar Mayer hot dogs to Kool-Aid.

The stock plunged 30% in one day after it announced a 36% dividend cut and never recovered:

War! Good or Bad for Stocks? / Stock-Markets / Investing 2019

Take a look at stock market behavior in times of war... and peace

By Bob Stokes

After the U.S. recently announced new sanctions against Iran, tensions have escalated between the two countries.

USA Today reported (May 7):

The Pentagon is rushing additional military muscle, including B-52 bombers, to the Middle East to counter Iranian threats to U.S. troops on the ground and at sea.

Of course, it's always best when military conflict can be avoided because as U.S. President Abraham Lincoln said in an 1864 speech:

War at the best, is terrible ...
