Trump’s Solar Tariff Confusion Creates An Investing Opportunity / Companies / Solar Energy

By: OilPrice_Com

The solar sector is reeling from confusion, and stock prices are reeling right along with it. The time it has taken investors and traders to wrap their heads around Trump’s industry tariffs and the pyrrhic victory of two solar companies in a case against cheap Chinese imports has seen stocks rally in a big way, and then fall just as hard.

When the International Trade Court ruled in favor of plaintiffs Suniva and SolarWorld in their case against cheap Chinese solar module and cell imports, reactions were polarized: the U.S. solar industry was outraged—as it had been for most of the duration of the court investigation—and investors, apparently, were extremely upbeat for the future of this same outraged industry, sending solar stocks sky-high.

Exponential Solar Power Growth Means Fossil Fuels Are Toast / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: John_Rubino

With all the oil-related headlines we’re exposed to each day, you might assume that “black gold,” along with other fossil fuels like coal and natural gas, matter to humanity’s future. You’d be wrong. Like Keynesian economics and fiat currencies, fossil fuels are near the end of their run. From here on out, solar is the story.

A Bright Future for Solar Power in the Middle East / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: STRATFOR

Forecast

  • Geography and demographic challenges have made parts of the Middle East and North Africa a prime location for solar power installations.
  • While solar will not supplant the role of hydrocarbons, it will enable countries such as Morocco and Jordan to improve energy security and potentially become electricity exporters.
  • Countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will seek to maintain their position as energy exporters, in part by adopting strategies likely to include renewables development.

SunEdison Green Power Bankruptcy Inevitability / Companies / Solar Energy

By: BATR

For all those sun baked brains that see salvation in renewable nirvana, the imminent demise of SunEdison is the latest case that creative green economics is the path to insolvency. After studying the tangled web of cross collateralization and rehypothecation of debt, the WSJ announcement is inevitable, SunEdison Said to Be Preparing to File for Bankruptcy. “Solar-energy company SunEdison Inc. plans to file for bankruptcy protection in coming weeks, a dramatic about-face for a company whose market value stood at nearly $10 billion in July.”

Solar Stocks the Biggest Investment Opportunity in Energy Right Now / Companies / Solar Energy

By: Investment_U

David Fessler writes: By 2035, the electricity sector - which should be worth a cool $4 trillion annually - won’t look anything like it does today. That’s because a huge disruptor is affecting the way energy is generated and distributed...

I’m talking about solar.

Right now, solar is a $120 billion a year industry. Over the last two decades, solar has grown at a 30% compound annual growth rate. And there’s no reason to think that won’t continue.

Get Ready for the Next Advance in Solar Energy / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: ...

MoneyMorning.com Dr. Kent Moors writes: Despite limitations, solar has reached grid parity in a number of regions in the U.S. That means sun power is as cost efficient as electricity utilizing more conventional sources like coal and natural gas. But it still has some limitations that prevent it from becoming the main source of power.

Usually the discussion of how solar energy will develop centers on improving the inversion process or combining greater efficiency in generation with a better battery technology to store what is produced.

Why Buffett Bet A Billion On Solar Energy / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: OilPrice_Com

Miles Per Acre Per Year

During the late innings of the ICE-age (as in the Internal Combustion Engine age) it has become clear that feeding gasoline and diesel to the next billion new cars is not going to be easy, or cheap. In China alone, 500 million new vehicles can be expected to jam the roads between now and 2030.

That may sound far-fetched but considering annual sales have already made it to 25 million units per year (vs. around 17 million in the U.S. – China became the top market in 2009), it only requires a 4 percent growth rate to reach that target in fifteen years.

Tesla Powerwall Übermensch / Companies / Solar Energy

By: John_Mauldin

By Jared Dillian

Elon Musk just unveiled something called the “Tesla Powerwall,” a means to store solar-created electricity in people’s homes… with the potential to put the entire utility industry out of business.

As you probably know, Musk also has these electric cars that people seem to like to drive… with the potential to put all the major car manufacturers out of business. Oh, and the dealerships too.

Is Solar Power About To Crush Big Oil And Big Coal AND End Global Warming? / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: John_Rubino

Something amazing has happened in the energy market. The cost of solar power has fallen to the point where, in a growing number of places, it’s cheaper than the electricity that utilities deliver from their coal-fired power plants. And its price is still falling.

Tesla’s Disruptive New Plan to Power Your Home / Companies / Solar Energy

By: Money_Morning

Dr. Kent Moors writes: Two eye-opening announcements prove that renewable energy is no longer at the mercy of the price of oil.

Both involve solar power, which I find increasingly attractive in today’s markets.

The first is a major test of a joint project between Tesla Motors Inc. (NasdaqGS: TSLA) and SolarCity Corp. (NasdaqGS: SCTY) involving 500 California homes.

Solar Power is at a Tipping Point (The Upshot is Massive Profits) / Companies / Solar Energy

By: Money_Morning

Dr. Kent Moors writes: I have spent years tracking dozens of promising renewable energy companies.

And while the potential of these groundbreaking companies has always been tempting, there have always been limitations holding them back.

New projects require intensive amounts of working capital to make them fully compatible with traditional methods of generating power, and there’s the widely held assumption that renewables can’t survive absent government subsidies and benefits.

Why the Smart Money is Betting on Renewable Energ - Brewing Solar Power Boom / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: Money_Morning

Dr. Kent Moors writes: While everyone’s been fixated on oil, renewable energy has been gathering some serious steam.

Led by solar power, worldwide capital investment in “clean” energy surged by more than 16% last year.

In fact, spending on renewable energy was so strong in 2014, some have begun to label the recent rush into renewables as a “turning point” in the energy balance.

The Big Solar Energy Breakthrough We've Been Waiting For / Companies / Solar Energy

By: Money_Morning

Besides its environmental advantages, solar power has always had one great benefit: It's hyper local. Solar panels make it possible to generate electricity on-site, precisely where it's needed. Like a portable generator powered by the sun, solar energy promises power wherever the sun shines.

What began as backup to more conventional grid-networked sources of power has quickly blossomed into a separate profit center.

China Might Be Winning The Race To Reduce Solar Energy Generation Costs / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: OilPrice_Com

Many people, even fanatical advocates of solar power, are unaware quite how close we are to reaching a critical milestone in the industry. Within a fairly short space of time, solar generated electricity will be fully cost competitive with coal-powered electricity -- at least if the governments of the world's two largest energy consuming nations have their way.

Solar Energy Sector ETF Breaking Out – How to Trade It / Companies / Solar Energy

By: Chris_Vermeulen

During the past couple months several indexes, sectors and commodities have sold off more than 10 – 20%. But now some are looking like new buying opportunities. Over the next week I will bring a few of these trades to your attention as they start to unfold.

Today we are looking at the TAN solar ETF. This sector recently had a 23% hair cut in price. A 20-25% correction in price is a typical intermediate correction for a fast moving sector. The price correction has pulled the sector down to its 150 and 200 simple day moving averages. These levels tend to act as long term support for investors, a buying point.

Angela Merkel Snubs Global Warming And Dumps The Solar Industry / Politics / Solar Energy

By: Andrew_McKillop

Mutter and Stutter
Germany's Angela Merkel, nicknamed the Mutter for “Mother” of a successful Germany who got herself re-elected, is said by Berlin daily 'TAZ' to have already decided she will not attend the Ban Ki-Moon-initiated UN climate conference in New York this September. The paper says this was “confirmed by a government spokesman“. If so, Merkel’s decision to snub the event is likely another sign that efforts to implement present climate agreements, and forge new ones are already dead in the water.  Germany EEG or renewable energy law (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz) is another very likely collateral victim.

Has Solar Power Finally Arrived? / Commodities / Solar Energy

By: Money_Morning

Dr. Kent Moors writes: Solar power has always offered up the promise of three tremendous benefits.

It’s renewable, it’s great for the environment, and it can be produced right here at home – safely insulated from the ups and downs of global politics and market bottlenecks.

But there has always been one big problem with solar – the price.
