Barron's Is Wrong On Medtronic / Companies / Corporate Earnings

By: Vitaliy_Katsenelson

I love Barron’s. I really do. I read it from cover to cover, and I truly believe it is one of the few business publications that knows the difference between a good company and a good stock. Now that I’ve sugared it up, let me tell you this: its article on Medtronic is wrong! Here are some arguments the Barron’s article made that require my rebuttal:

MacMurray Whale: Find Energy Catalysts, Find Growth / Companies / Online Gambling

By: The_Energy_Report

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIf there were an alternative energy sector exam, Cormark Securities Analyst MacMurray Whale would ace that test. He knows the micro and macro forces at play in a truly global sector and how those forces are affecting companies seeking growth in largely uncharted waters. It's altogether uncommon knowledge but in this exclusive with The Energy Report, Whale provides a heady glimpse at some prospective alternative energy plays with tangible catalysts for growth. MacMurray likes some big-cap energy developers paying dividends and some much smaller solar plays with big upside. It's an alternative energy cheat sheet you don't need to feel guilty about.

By: Money_Morning

Global takeovers announced so far this year have totaled $1.29 trillion, up 23% from the same time last year, according to Bloomberg News.

Expected Upside for Trina Solar TSL / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

All of the action in Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL) off of the July high at 22.45 through today's trading has the right look of a mature (read: nearly complete) bullish coil pattern, which if accurate means that the next significant directional move should be to the upside in a thrust out of the coil towards a target zone of 25.00/50.

Who Actually Owns BP? / Companies / Oil Companies

By: Global_Research

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMost relevant sources agree that 40% of the shares of BP are held in the United Kingdom, 39% of the shares are held in the United States, while the remaining 21% are held throughout Europe and the rest of the world. The largest single holder of shares is getting harder to track down. Generally an Internet search will lead to the other 9 leaders, roughly 23%:

Will Barnes & Noble Lose the E-Book War? / Companies / Technology

By: Investment_U

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleAlexander Moschina writes: Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS) – the largest bookstore chain in the United States – is in trouble. So much trouble that it’s decided to put itself up for sale.

The bookseller, whose stock recently dropped to a 10-year low, is hoping for a takeover bid as it tries to gain a foothold in the growing e-reader market.

Traffic Jam on the Internet Superhighway / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Frank_Holmes

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThere’s growing congestion on one of America’s highways and reports say the problem will only get worse. In just the past few years, America’s technological network—our information superhighway—has gone from hare to tortoise. Dropped calls, Internet outages and surfing at a snail’s pace now seem to be commonplace.

“Dark Pool” Stock Market Manipulation Continues / Companies / Market Manipulation

By: Christopher_Quigley

Traders and investors please be aware that the “Flash Crash” of May 6th.  was not an isolated incident. I attach two recent examples of similar “events”. The forces that worked in May last are still alive and  functioning, however, rather than directing their forces market-wise, they are now targeting specific stocks with very profitable consequences.

My Favourite Junior Oil Stocks Exposed – the David Pescod Interview / Companies / Oil Companies

By: Keith_Schaefer

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThis article is a transcript of an interview I did with Canaccord stockbroker David Pescod, one of the best stockpickers in the junior oilpatch I know.  I started doing business with Dave in 1998, the middle of the “nuclear winter” of junior mining stocks, because I saw he was making good money in a bad market.  I read his daily (and free) Late Edition newsletter every single day to hear what other analysts and executives are saying.  He originally sent this article out in early August.

AK Steel Corp Strong Relative Performance / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

Barring a global exodus from equities on a rotating timezone basis, I want to stay with AK Steel Corp (NYSE: AKS) for a number of reasons. Purely on a technical basis, so far today, the weakness has NOT violated the prior pullback low. Secondly, while the emini S&P 500 has come within two-tenths of 1% of its prior August 16 low, AKS remains $0.90, or 6.5%, above its 8/16 low.

Three Ways to Invest In South America with ETFs / Companies / Emerging Markets

By: Ron_Rowland

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIn last week’s column we looked at some ETFs focused on the booming countries of Southeast Asia. Today we’re turning our spyglass in a different direction. We’re looking at the southern portion of the western hemisphere — South America.

If you participated in the Weiss Global Forum earlier this week, you heard us talking about Brazil as the hub of its continent. The parallels with China are very interesting …

How to Profit From China's Secret Energy Plan / Companies / Oil Companies

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleKent Moors writes: Like everything else, the balance of power in the global energy market is shifting toward China, where a little-known province is perfectly situated to become a global oil-and-gas market powerhouse.

Nestled in the far northwest of China, Xinjiang is the country's largest province and the primary domestic source for oil and gas. It is sparsely populated and as big as Western Europe. The name, Xinjiang, literally means "New Frontier." And recent decisions in Beijing are going to give that translation even more meaning - transforming this province into a "new frontier" for the global energy sector.

Kinross Gold Corporation: A Takeover Too Far? / Companies / Gold & Silver Stocks

By: Bob_Kirtley

The acquisitive nature of Kinross Gold Corporation (KGC) has taken it to the door step of Red Back Mining Incorporated (RBI) which appears to be a very good acquisition in terms of providing a pipeline of mining opportunities for Kinross. As usual with the predator in these situations the stock price of Kinross reflects a fair amount of trepidation in the mood of the investor, than both management teams would have liked to see.
