Quit Your Airline Bitching / Companies / Sector Analysis

By: John_Mauldin

By Jared Dillian

Every once in a while, I’ll be finger scrolling through Twitter and I’ll come across a tweet from a journalist about how oil prices are going down and airfares are going up, so something must be done. I mean, shouldn’t all businesses pass along windfall profits to their customers? Shouldn’t there be a law or something?

Is It Finally Time to Buy Energy Stocks? / Companies / Energy Resources

By: DailyWealth

Dr. Steve Sjuggerud writes: "Why You Can't Buy Oil Stocks – Yet." That was the DailyWealth headline on January 6.

I wrote that 90 days ago... Has the picture changed yet for oil stocks?

Is it finally time to buy energy companies yet?

Why Microsoft Tech Blue Chip Stock Is on Sale / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Money_Morning

William Patalon writes: The last time Shah Gilani recommended Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) to Private Briefing readers as a "New Buy," I asked him if he had a Windows-powered crystal ball – or a listening device planted in the software firm's Redmond, Wash., headquarters.

I was only kidding, of course. But Shah's timing was stunning…

Fat Loss Pills - How to Profit from America's $20 Billion Waistline War / Companies / BioTech

By: Money_Morning

Ernie Tremblay writes: Weight loss is a $20 billion per year industry. Yet, it seems the more we spend on shedding pounds, the more pounds we have to shed. Today, two-thirds of adults and one-third of children in the U.S. are overweight or obese, and the numbers are climbing.

With a growing market of that magnitude and so much money changing hands, it's no wonder investors' eyes light up when they hear the words "new obesity drug."

They'll Cry "Black Swan" While You Book Double-Digit Gains / Companies / Investing 2015

By: Money_Morning

Peter Krauth writes: According to the Fed, in retrospect, the mortgage crisis of 2007 was a black swan, an unknowable and unpredictable negative outlier event that triggered financial panic and chaos around the world.

Eight years later, these "rare birds" remain as elusive as ever to central bankers and policymakers everywhere.

Over the same time frame, worldwide debt has ballooned by 40%.

Is Warren Buffett Wrong About Oil Stocks? / Companies / Oil Companies

By: OilPrice_Com

Recently, Warren Buffett has made headlines by selling all of his shares in Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM), the rest of his position in ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), and reducing his stake in National Oilwell Varco. This has people wondering if the glory days of oil investing are over.

Warren's opinion of oil investments carries a lot of weight, because over a 32 year period, Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway portfolio has generated an average annual return of 24 percent. His most famous investments are Coke, American Express, and Gillette (which is now Proctor and Gamble). These investments have made him over 3 billion dollars each. This is why when Buffett buys or sells a stock, everyone takes notice. The problem with this generally accepted assumption is that it hasn't been proven that his equity investing success equates to success in the resource sector. In order to find out if this accepted assumption is correct, we first have to visit Warren's history of investing in the resource sector.

How Traded Options Can Power a 300%-Plus Gain on Twitter / Companies / Options & Warrants

By: Money_Morning

Tom Gentile writes: Twitter has often been dismissed as a company that should have sold out to Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) years ago, and until recently no one really wanted to own its stock.

I disagree. I believe now is the right time to buy Twitter Inc. (NYSE: TWTR) stock, and not just because it's starting to show up on the Street's buy lists.

You Can’t Afford Not to Invest in This Latest Yesla Technology / Companies / US Auto's

By: Money_Morning

Michael A. Robinson writes: It’s not often a so-called financial writer so blatantly misreads a key tenet of the technology business.

But that’s just what I saw in a piece I came across a couple of weeks ago.

Offering his take on Tesla’s announcement that its new Model S sedans would feature some “self-driving” technology, the columnist bemoaned the vehicle’s high price. He worried that “America’s wealth gap will spread to the highways,” leaving regular folks behind.

How Investors can Maximize Disney Stock "Magic" / Companies / Options & Warrants

By: Money_Morning

Even though we're in the middle of March Madness right now, I'm not going to talk about this year's "Cinderella" teams, which come out of nowhere and make it to the Final Four in college basketball.

No… the real Cinderella story is happening at U.S. box offices. A simple Disney remake of the classic film managed to gross over $70 million in one weekend earlier this month. There's clearly investment potential in this success.

Driverless Cars Poised To Transform Automotive Industry / Companies / US Auto's

By: OilPrice_Com

The newest Mercedes autonomous car looks like a car on the outside but like a lounge on the inside, with four swivel seats facing each other in a multimedia bubble of padded leather and walnut veneer.

The F 015 'Luxury in Motion' concept car unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year is completely self-driving but still has a steering wheel and brake if you want to swivel around and drive it manually.

Airline Pilots Death Cult - Germanwings 9525 Crashed by Co-Pilot, is Air Travel Safe? / Companies / Sector Analysis

By: Nadeem_Walayat

The cockpit voice recorder reveals the truth of the mass murder that took place on Germanwings Flight 9525, as the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, locked the pilot out of the cabinet and then proceeded to direct the plane head long into a mountain, that within a few short minutes with the pilot banging on the door, pleading to be let back in and passengers screaming, crashed at a speed of 700mph killing all 150 on board.

Where to Invest the Next Time Your Flight Gets Delayed / Companies / Sector Analysis

By: Money_Morning

Michael A. Robinson writes: It’s been a few weeks, but I’m sure you recall the tale of American Airlines Flight 382.

On Feb. 28, the routine commuter flight was scheduled to fly from Dallas to Oklahoma City – usually an hour-long trip.

However, bad weather and mechanical problems combined to leave passengers stranded on the plane for nine grueling hours.

Gold Price Outlook Dramatic Improvement Following US Dollar Topping Action / Companies / Gold and Silver 2015

By: Clive_Maund

The immediate outlook for gold has improved dramatically following the dollar's topping action of recent days after the Fed was rumbled, and the vast improvement in the COT structure of the past 2 weeks. While the negative outlook set out in the last update could yet come to pass in the event of a deflationary implosion - and remains a risk until gold breaks out of the downtrend shown here on our 8-year chart - latest COTs certainly suggest that the risk has been averted for now. In anticipation of the dollar reversing after the Fed meeting, we liquidated our PM sector short positions for a profit on the site and reversed to long, and the way things are shaping up we won't need to close our long positions for a while.

T-Mobile CEO: "Sprint couldn't give away service...their network is completely dead" / Companies / Mobile Technology

By: Mike_Shedlock

John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile, spoke with Bloomberg Television's Stephanie Ruhle today about the company's latest "uncarrier" move, business strategy and recent growth.

On Sprint making a big push into business and competition with T-Mobile, Legere said: "Sprint could give away service in the business or the consumer side because their network is completely dead and everybody knows it. What Sprint announced recently was an age-old bundle service per seat where you try to aggregate everything that happens in the office place. We're not fooling around with that. This is wireless services and we are focusing straight in there, and I have very little concern about Sprint."

Utility Stocks Sector - The Most Crowded Trades on Wall Street / Companies / US Utilities

By: EconMatters

This crowded trade revolves around a common theme Central Bank Policy and its effects on financial markets. The third most crowded trade in our series is the Utility Sector Stocks. Investors have piled into this sector due to the perceived defensive nature of the sector with the fact that this sector pays a hefty dividend, a dividend higher than say a 10-Year Bond. And because bond yields have been driven so low by yield chasers, utility stocks get even more of a bid than they otherwise would given their fundamentals. In short, utility stocks and the utility sector in general have become surrogate bond instruments for investors.
