Summary:

Like seeds, our thoughts about money get planted deep in our minds and multiply.  They grow into ideas, into beliefs that define us.  What if your thoughts about money and wealth creation are poisoned seeds?  What if those poisoned seeds grew into worthless weeds, beliefs that breed self-sabotage, self-criticism, fears, self-doubts and procrastination?

Do you think those type of weeds would limit your ability to create and enjoy wealth?

Read on and find out what a former financial advisor discovered about lies that keep people from achieving financial goals.

* * *

In the classic book called The Science of Getting Rich, the author explains how “thoughts are like seeds.”  When you plant a seed, it grows, and in the act of living, one seed produces a hundred more seeds, multiplying itself.  One seed transforms into a forest.

Thoughts, like seeds, follow this natural law of life.

Thoughts that are planted in our minds grow, they multiply and become more!  They grow into ideas, into beliefs.  Beliefs become alive and take a life of their own. We become what we believe in. Beliefs define us and shape our reality.

What if you could pull out those old weeds and plant new seeds that produced rich and healthy yields?

But the million-dollar question is this:  How can you plant new seeds that will yield a more prosperous life?

False Beliefs That We Accept As Truth Lead To Financial Distress

For 15 years, I worked in the investment industry. Hundreds of clients told me their financial stories.  I heard how money was lost through “bad investments,” foolish decisions in business and partnerships (business and romantic), stock market misfortunes, job firings and economic downturns.  My background in psychology and passion for wisdom helped me to be a very good listener.

Over time, I detected an important pattern.  Most people had false beliefs about their abilities and made poor decisions that negatively affected their finances and personal lives.  Most people felt shame. It was hidden deep inside.

I came to understand that the root of financial distress comes from false beliefs, particularly false beliefs about our worth and abilities.

I believe the #1 lie responsible for financial distress is the underlying belief that goes something like “I am not capable enough.”

What is a false belief?  It’s a lie that we tell ourselves and believe in.   Lies take away our power. If a lie just remained a lie—a thought—it wouldn’t be so destructive.  But believing in lies leads to feeling bad, which leads to behavior that keeps us from achieving our deepest goals.

Lies are like “personal demons” because they distract us from our goals, from our purpose.  Ultimately, they keep us from realizing our full potential.  They keep us stuck, in the dark.  When we allow them to define us, to control us, we lose our power to realize our deepest dreams.  When we believe in lies, we feel weak, disillusioned and tired.

Here are a few examples of false beliefs that we believe in:

•           “I don’t know how to make smart financial choices.”

•           “Money is the root of all evil.“

•           “It’s too late.  If I haven’t been successful by now, it won’t happen.”

•           “I am too old to build a business.”

•           “Wealthy people are lucky.”

•           “I just don’t have what it takes to be successful.”

•           “I am useless because no one wants to hire me.”

One of the most harmful results of believing in lies is feeling shame.

Shame imprisons us in a vicious cycle.  When we feel shame, we act in ways that weaken us and we fail to achieve our financial goals.

You might be saying, “I don’t feel any shame in my life.”

But you need to know that shame, like other personal demons, disguises itself in various ways.  It takes on many forms.  It hides deep within.  And it starts with a false belief.

In the next article, I will reveal a two-step practice that you can do to expose hidden lies.  And, you will also learn about transforming lies into prosperous truths.  As we liberate ourselves from false beliefs that keep us stuck in the past, we become free to realize our financial and personal goals.
