The Unintended Blowback Of False Flags

Politics / GeoPolitics Aug 31, 2014 - 06:31 PM GMT

What We Know and Don't Know
As remarked by Brandon Smith on alt-market .com, governments and their secret service agencies have engineered “false-flag” and terrorist incidents over centuries. They are a historically established fact. For centuries, political and military or financial elites have been sinking ships, setting buildings on fire, stealing gold bullion in transit or storage, assassinating royal families or diplomats, overthrowing elected leaders, blowing up airliners and then blaming these disasters on scapegoat enemies to get public opinions behind them for war fever – also reinforcing their own elite power.

To be sure the nature of the game is secret, so skeptics can argue whether certain calamities were surely and with no doubt “false flags” but it is impossible to deny that the game exists. Often decades or nearly a half-century after the events, declassified documents or a book at the end of his life by a key false flag agent will prove that government organized and executed a particular false flag. One example is the recent disclosure that “Operation Gladio”, especially in Italy was a false-flag in Europe supported by European and American secret and covert agencies which was operated for at least 20 years from the 1950s, producing supposed extreme left-wing terror attacks, maimings and loss of life.

In the Gladio program, exactly as in similar false flags operated against different targets by other secret services “program drift” was always a key danger. Agencies ranging from Israel's Mossad, the UK's MI5 and MI6, France's DGSE, to German, Belgian, Spanish and Dutch secret services and of course the USA's covert action agencies – and those of the USSR, China, India, Iran and others during the Cold War not interrupted by the termination of this war in 1989 – often faced difficulty on the choice of methods, targets, operatives and allies.  The type and intensity of the terror action was often decided at the last moment – or not at all. Operatives and agents “did their own thing”. The net result was blowback, even the exact opposite of the intended and desired outcome.

Commenting the surprisingly instant, evil cartoon-type actions of ISIS so well-suited to degenerate Internet social networks and the totally degraded security situation in the Middle East, Brandon Smith said this image  “is not accidental, but I can see why they frighten a subset of the American population. If I didn't know that they were funded by the US, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with military aid from Israel I might find them a terrifying enigma as well”.

ISIS was a suitable case for arms, training, funding and support by a large number of western government agencies at Jordanian sites, when ISIS was seen as a lever for destroying the regime of Bashr al-Assad in Syria. But when it “went viral” and spread like a cancer in the Arabian peninsula, and elsewhere this blowback was an “unexpected event” which nobody will step forward to admit.

Bad Blowback
This in no way was an exception – it is rather the rule – explaining why it is so dangerous. Israel, for example, will never admit that more than 25 years of its covert agencies' terror operations in Libya, designed to weaken and unseat Gaddafi, in fact reinforced his regime. The unintended consequences included Gaddafi being able to claim that he was an Arab leader in fighting al-Qaeda.

Further back in history, the probable “false flag” sinking of the Lusitania passenger ship off Ireland in 1915 by a German submarine provided with false intelligence that the ship was a troop carrier also bringing munitions and weapons for the UK and France to fight Germany, was designed to make a neutral-inclined USA enter World War I. In fact another two years was needed, plus the “Zimmerman telegram” incident concerning a supposed German-Mexican plan to invade the USA, to bring the US onside with Britain and France – but these incidents also led to US doubt on the intentions of both the UK and France in the 1917-23 Versailles Treaty conference series “carving up” the Middle East.

The leaking of the Sykes-Picot agreement between the UK and France to split known and projected oil reserves across the Arabian peninsula, by Vladimir Lenin in 1918 immediately following the Russian revolution, intensified US doubt. The US on several occasions removed its delegates from Versailles Treaty meetings and boycotted the proceedings. The Sykes-Picot agreement, always secret, had been sealed with the intention of an English-French carve-up of former Ottoman Empire territories in the Middle East in major part on the basis of oil reserves and potential, while at the same time “keeping the USA in the dark”. Other false flags used during the Versailles Treaty series included leaked documents both fake and real, press campaigns in national media and the bribery or killing of key diplomats, notably designed to squeeze out Italian access to future oil-bearing territories.

An increasing number of analysts now identify the 9 / 11 events in the USA in 2001 as an aborted or distorted false flag event – easily explaining why it officially remains a mystery. Blowback for the USA is ongoing in several domains, including the perceived vulnerability of the continental USA to Islamic-flavor terror attacks far more deadly than the “Boston bombings”. These attacks therefore become the natural goal of future false flag terror.

The Middle East Pressure Cooker
Unknown to many but a fact, the secret services and covert action agencies of many countries actively recruit, train, arm and fund “terror operatives” for false flag operations against their enemies. As Brandon Smith notes the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was held at a US owned detention facility called Camp Bucca (near Umm Qasr in Iraq) from 2005 until 2009. Before his imprisonment, Baghdadi's friends and family said he was a “quiet, studious fellow who was also a talented soccer player”. One year later, in 2010 he was a raging fanatical Sunni Islamic extremist dedicated to founding the ISIS Grand Caliphate.

More interesting, perhaps, there is no official record of why al-Baghdadi was detained in 2005. The most-facile claim is that he was “turned around” by the simple act of detention in a “pressure cooker for extremism”. However, at exactly that time and moment, his fellow extremists were well paid, trained and armed at secret camps in Jordan by the US, its European allies, Israel and the Gulf Arab states to fight the forces of Bashr al-Assad, backed by Vladimir Putin's Russia.

Bad blowback. The “pressure cookers of extremism” possibly played a role – but not the intended one.

Almost fantastic by its implications, neither the USA nor its European allies intend abandoning their funding and military support to “moderate rebel forces” in Syria. Barack Obama has for example recently maintained his demand to Congress for $500 million in additional funding. Very simply, this is the “double or quits” play with false flag operations, similar to the attempts by the UK and France to get the US on their side in World War I. If the initial operation blew back badly, doubling the funds and the action will make it come right. We hope and pray.

Only an idiot can deny that ISIS is al-Qaeda 2.0 with massively greater forces, funding and weapons supply, which is proven by the breathless excited statements of Chuck Hagel, the US Defense Secretary. He has said about ISIS: "They're beyond just a terrorist group. They marry ideology with a sophisticated strategic and tactical military prowess and they're tremendously well-funded. This is way beyond anything we have seen. We must prepare for everything. Get Ready!"

An increasing number of analysts, not only conspiracy theory genre-writers conclude that the only logical conclusion is large-scale false flag terror attacks in the USA and in European countries. These will have an obligatory Islamic-flavor and Islamic-handle. Unintended blowback will be certain!
