Booming Industries: How Online Gaming is Set to Lead the Way

Companies / Gambling Aug 30, 2018 - 06:11 AM GMT

Companies

When you start to dig deeper into the health of the online gaming sector, it is clear that it is in great shape right now. The sheer size of the numbers involved globally illustrate this perfectly. Take the projected figure for 2018, which will see it generate $50bn overall, and then look at the projected revenue figures going forward into 2020 of almost $60bn. Taking this kind of evidence into account shows a sector that is not only doing very well but also growing at a fast rate.

What is behind this rapid rise within the overall gambling industry?

Online gaming offers a mix of attractive features

While land-based casinos continue to be popular and are vital to gambling’s overall future, they are not for everyone. Many people love to play slot games or classic casino games but don’t want the hassle of leaving the house or don’t like the atmosphere in a physical casino. This is where online gaming came in and gave those millions of people a way to still play casino games.

Online gaming took the latest technology to create purely online casinos that people could visit from the comfort of their own home. Their mix of convenience, wide choice of games, superb promotions and fun appeal really hit home and sparked their rapid ascent within the sector.

How will this continue in the coming years?

Of course, now that online gaming is well established within the gambling sector, many will look to future plans for how it will evolve. As with any industry, it cannot stand still and must be constantly moving forward to stay popular.

Here are some ways that it will continue to boom in the years to come:

  • Virtual reality – if you talk about online gambling’s future to any industry expert, then this is the one area that they think will continue to keep it booming. VR will put you right in the heart of the action as a player to give you an immersive playing experience like never before. It is not only the games that will use this tech but also casinos, and there are many already in operation that give you the feeling of being at a real casino but without leaving the house.
  • Augmented reality – this is almost a sister technology to VR but could be the one that proves a massive draw for players with online gaming. Unlike VR, this enables in-game situations to be changed and given a twist that wouldn’t happen in real life. Many predict that this actually gives it more uses for online gaming and could prove a real breakthrough going forward.
  • Advances in mobile tech – already, we have seen mobile gambling take off in its own right as mobile casinos have developed in recent years. This has been down to mobile devices having better technology in them that allows for mobile casinos to do more as a result. As mobile device power continues to expand and things such as bigger screens come into play, it is certain that the online gaming sector will use this to keep giving players a better experience.
  • Voice-activated games – at the moment, you have to swipe the screen or click your mouse to play online casino games – but what if you could do it all with voice-activated commands? Already, this type of tech is in place in our lives with devices such as Amazon’s Alexa. It is thought that it will come more into online gaming in the future to keep it relevant and more fun to play. After all, it is much cooler asking for another card than clicking a button.
  • Motion sensing in games – as with voice activation, this is not a new technology so to speak. What could happen to see it help online gaming to continue its rise though is that it will be more fluid and natural. The next generation of casino games could see you able to perform functions in a game by simply moving your arm for amazing effects.

Online gaming always looking to evolve

The beauty for online gaming’s future is that it is tied up with the advances in technology that we will see. This means that online gaming will reap all the benefit of new tech and be perfectly placed to incorporate it to maximum effect. Any of the above that we have looked at will do just the job of helping online gaming to not only boom but also evolve into exciting new areas.
