Sheffield continues to make the national headlines for all the wrong reasons, one of people across Britain asking why is Sheffield renowned for being the greenest city in Britain is in the process of cutting down thousands of its most ancient trees? This selection of recent videos answers why as one of private profit, a huge £2bn PFI contract with Amey, coupled with lack of city council competency in managing Amey as being at the heart of Sheffield's trees felling crisis. Britain continues to experience a worsening housing crisis as annual demand for 400,000 new builds far out strips supply of barely 140,000, which keeps ratcheting up the crisis each year. Sheffield as is the case for most UK cities has seen its safety net of council properties for rent evaporate from a housing stock of over 80,000 30 years ago, most of which have been sold off at deep discounts under the right to buy scheme to now stand at under 40,000 council properties for rent.

Sheffield Schools Crisis, Why 2017 Will be Worst Year Ever for School Place Admissions / Politics / Sheffield

It will soon be crunch time for the parents of Sheffield's children starting secondary school this year as they will find out whether their child has obtained a place at their preferred / catchment area school or not. Or as has been increasingly the case during the past few years are going to be disappointed by the outcome as they contemplate the stressful process of appealing. A crisis due to a number of factors including that which prompted latest years BrExit vote. A Sheffield schools crisis that in large part has been the city councils own making, regardless of the party in power as the council has been determined in a continuation of the crisis that has no end in sight.

EIS Sheffield Warns Parents Not to take Photos of their Children on School Sports Days! / Local / Sheffield

The jobs worth's at the English Institute of Sports (EIS) situated in Sheffield are apparently warning parents not to take photos of their children on school sports days held at the EIS, as illustrated by the letter issued by Greystones Primary School to all parents, that is holding it's Sports Day today.

Silverdale, High Storrs, City Council Determined to Destroy Sheffield's Best State Schools / Local / Sheffield

An analysis of Sheffield's school league tables reveals a bleak picture of virtually all of Sheffield's best state schools on a downwards trend trajectory where the only school to buck the trend being Tapton, whilst Sheffield's best ranked state school (Silverdale) also shows a marginal decline. However, further down the league tables the downwards spiral in performance accelerates with King Ecgbert, Bradfield and High Storrs leading the way.

Sheffield Best Secondary Schools League Tables Trend Analysis 2015 / Local / Sheffield

Whilst most parents / students look at the most recent Sheffield school league table in making their secondary school choices, however these can from time to time prove highly misleading as many of Sheffield's 37 Secondary schools / Academies for whatever reason exhibit volatility in performance from year to year therefore a currently high ranking school may not mean that the same level of performance will continue for subsequent years as it may have been subject to special intervention and circumstances, therefore a much better methodology in the rating of schools is evaluation in terms of trend and deviations against trend.

Sheffield School Places Admissions Crisis - End of Catchment Areas Labour Election Bribe? / Local / Sheffield

The Labour controlled Sheffield City Council is desperately attempting to address the perfect storm that the city faces as the demand for places at Sheffield's best state schools far exceeds places available that for some schools is resulting in twice the number of applications as there are places (i.e. Dobcroft Infants Sch. places 90, applications 150). The perfect storm is as a consequences of several converging factors of year on year real terms budget cuts at a time of a rising natural birth rate, continuing out of control immigration and its consequences in terms of disruption of social cohesion in areas of the city, desperate parents utilising every trick under the sun to circumvent the catchment area rules such as encouraging over eager psychologists to expand the scope of the Special Educational Needs statements (SEN's) that for some schools has now been expanded to include 1/3rd of all children, and an epidemic in outright fraudulent school applications in terms of use of catchment area addresses.
