These 3 Investments Are the Plays to Make During Recession / Stock-Markets / Investing 2016

By: John_Mauldin

BY PATRICK WATSON: The global economy is stuck in neutral in spite of the “whatever it takes” efforts of central bankers.

The eventual fallout from near zero or even negative interest rates is a huge unknown. Given the lack of historical precedent, even the best and brightest market observers admit it’s hard to create useful macroeconomic models.

North Korea Rocks Wall Street / Stock-Markets / Investing 2016

By: ....

U.S. stocks are falling like crazy in the aftermath of the latest of North Korean nuclear tests, sending traders into the state of frenzy. Few Buys in Global Stock Markets After Rallies / Companies / Investing 2016

By: The_Gold_Report

Money manager Adrian Day provides an update of his non-resource holdings and his interpretation of the Federal Reserve's activities.

All of the Business Development Companies have moved up strongly in recent months from their grossly oversold year-end levels, in line with many other "dividend" plays, such as utilities. In general, we are holding, given the still-high yields and improvements at the companies, but not buying given the strong recent stock movement as well as yields that are coming down to historical norms.

Commodities Are the Best Bargain Now—Here’s What to Buy / Commodities / Investing 2016

By: John_Mauldin

TONY SAGAMI writes: What kind of investor are you? Are you the buy-high-sell-higher (trend continuation) type? Or are you a bargain hunter who likes beaten-down (trend reversal) opportunities?

The former type of investor is now in heaven. With the stock market at new highs, there are many stocks on fire.

But if you’re looking for bargains, the pickings are pretty slim.

Americans favour Coffee over Financial Freedom / Stock-Markets / Investing 2016

By: Sol_Palha

A little and a little, collected together, becomes a great deal; the heap in the barn consists of single grains, and drop and drop make the inundation.
Saadi

Towards the end of last year, we published an article titled  Americans favour coffee to stock market investing where we demonstrated that an overwhelming majority drink coffee as opposed to investing in the stock market’ 61% of Americans drink coffee on a daily basis as opposed to the 48% that invest in the market. On aannual basis, Americans spend about $1200 on coffee. If they put this money into the market and allowed compound interest to do its magic, it could grow into a nice tidy sum over a period of 20 years.

By: John_Mauldin

BY TONY SAGAMI : If you put together a list of the world’s most brilliant, most famous investment experts… they were all at John Mauldin’s Strategic Investment Conference last month.

My head is still spinning with all the information and investment ideas I heard at the conference, but the consensus among the majority of speakers was that things are going to get ugly.

Double-Digit Yields from Stocks Around the World / Companies / Investing 2016

By: The_Gold_Report

In this bulletin, Adrian Day reviews three companies with strong yields. All three are under some pressure, but equally all are solid companies with very attractive yields.

Ares Capital Corp. (ARCC:NASDAQ) (15.11, 10.1%) is a solid company, the largest of the dividend-paying BDCs. There have been some positive developments in the latest quarter: the Net Asset Value increased, modestly, again; there was improvement in the credit profile of its holdings; and it repurchased $5.5 million of its shares (though earlier in the quarter at lower prices).

How Investors Can Leverage the Most Powerful Force in the Universe / Stock-Markets / Investing 2016

By: Investment_U

Andrew Gordon writes: Investing in the early days of an initial public offering (IPO) isn’t what it used to be.

Last year’s IPOs are a shining example. Shares of tech companies that IPO’d in 2015 averaged around a 40% drop from their first-day closing price to current prices.

The kind of gains you would have gotten from Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) (over 35,000% since its IPO), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) (over 53,000%) and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) (nearly 16,000%) are nowhere to be found among newly minted public companies.

Small Business Indicators For Microcap Sector Choices / Companies / Investing 2016

By: Submissions

Alfidi Capital writes: Microcap stocks are notoriously hard nuts to crack. They are the part of the capitalization-weighted investment universe that is typically less liquid, transparent, and profitable than large-cap choices. Investors do have some indicators they can use to estimate turning points in the microcap sector's aggregate health. A small number of microcap ETFs help diversify away company-specific risk.

By: Submissions

Larissa James writes: While there are plenty of sound investments to be made in the United States in 2016, wise investors are expanding their horizons beyond domestic soil.
