Thorpe Theme Park London Car Park Exit Nightmare - Drivers Beware! / ConsumerWatch / Theme Parks

By: N_Walayat

Summer is here and families will be busy planning multiple visits to Britains theme parks, where the number 1 UK operator is the Merlin group with it's 32 theme parks and attractions including 10 or so in and around London, which includes Thorpe Park situated in Chertsey. However, motorists need to be fully aware of the nightmare that is this theme parks car park! As was our recent experience when we visited Thorpe Park for the first and LAST time! So whilst the theme park itself was great, especially the Walking Dead rides and attractions, unfortunately the living nightmare continued AFTER the park rides closed as the park becoming a dangerous nightmare to escape!

Land Rover Discovery Sport ECO Mode Real World Driving MPG Fuel Economy / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

This is the latest video in our Land Rover Discovery Sport's series that answers the question of what to expect in terms of fuel economy for this great looking and Land Rover model as compared against Land Rovers sales pitch of 53.3MPG, which in reality no one really expects to achieve, still 40MPG for a fairly new car should be achievable should it not? Well find out in our real conditions world test of driving 1100 miles in ECO Mode so as to maximise fuel economy that answers what one should expect from a 18 month old Land Rover Discovery Sport where the driving was approx 50% on motorways (50-70 mph) and the balance in city driving.

Land Rover Discovery Sport 1100 Miles ECO Mode Real MPG Fuel Economy Test / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

In this video I answer the question of just how closely Land Rover Discovery Sports fuel economy compares against Land Rovers 53.3 MPG sales pitch, as knowing what a car will actually do under real driving conditions is a very important consideration when buying any new car. This test is of driving 1100 miles in ECO Mode so as to maximise fuel economy of what to expect from a 18 month old Land Rover Discovery Sport that has done about 14,000 miles from new where the driving was approx 50% on motorways (50-70 mph) and the balance on city driving.

Close Look at Hanging Bar 2 Minute Challenge Rotating / Spinning Bar / ConsumerWatch / Theme Parks

By: N_Walayat

Summers here and everyone's off to the theme parks where your likely to come across the 2 Minute Hanging from a Bar Challenge to win a big toy prize or even cash! Should be easy enough, but only one problem, the bar rotates / spins! Which makes it that much harder to hold onto for the duration of the Challenge as opposed to a normal fixed bar.

So here we take a close look at the actual bar, to see how much it actually spins, and several things instantly stand out as you will see in the video such as that the bar is ultra smooth! And has ball bearings which makes it very easy to spin. So watch the video of why you should think twice before handing over cash. However I also do show how you can actually hold on for the whole 2 minutes.

By: Anika_Walayat

Summers here and everyone's off to the theme parks where your likely to come across the 2 Minute Bar Hang Challenge to win a prize! Seems easy enough, but only one problem, the bar rotates! So see how much more harder hanging from a spinning / rotating bar's is as compared to hanging from a normal fixed pull up bar as Anika who can easily hang for more than 2 minutes from a normal pull up bar does the comparison test, so one would expect should stand a good chance of beating the 2 min bar hang challenge at theme parks such as Alton Towers. Now watch exactly what the difference is between the two in terms of difficulty before you decide to hand out your hard earned cash and have a go!

Land Rover Discovery Sport Oil Service Interval at 12,000, 14000 or 21,000 Miles? / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

Land Rover's sales pitch is that the Discovery Sport's first service is due at 21,000 miles or 2 years, thus saving owners on expensive services. That and their service packs only tend to cover for 1 service every 2 years which may be the reason for the 21,000 miles service sales pitch. Unfortunately on the one hand there's the sales pitch and then there's the reality of what to actually expect when owning and driving a Land Rover Discovery Sport as there exists a wide gap between the two.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Rattling / Knocking Sounds From Car Pillars / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

Here's a report on what the Land Rover Discovery Sports rattling / knocking sounds are like that emanate from one or more of the car's pillars when driving, usually at it's noisiest from the passenger side pillar C. Which given the number of comments about this issue online is coming to be known as the 'Rattle Pack'. Anyway if your thinking of buying a Disco Sport then be on alert for rattling noises when test driving, as this car was rattling from day 1! This DS is an HSE Black bought from Hunters - Inchcape Chester.

Jaguar Land Rover Cuts 1000 Jobs on Diesel Sales Slump, Long-term Discovery Sport Review / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

Britains biggest car maker Jaguar Land Rover has axed 1000 jobs from their Midlands car factories following a 26% slump in sales on Brexit and Diesel engines future uncertainty and the emissions scandals that will now bring the JLR work force to under 40,000. The Job losses will virtually wholly hit the Range Rover and Discovery range of vehicles, a huge loss of demand that on an annualsied basis would translate into a loss of demand of more than 150,000 vehicles on total 2017 sales of 620,000.

ISupply Energy Consumer Warning - Never Put Your Account Into Credit! / ConsumerWatch / Household Bills

By: N_Walayat

ISupply Energy is one of many small gas and electricity suppliers to UK customers at generally competitive prices. Unfortunately they are able to achieve their competitive prices through having far less overheads in terms of systems in place to manage their customer accounts. I say unfortunately for when things go wrong then communicating with the likes of Isupply energy is literally like talking to a brick wall as has been my experience over the past 18 months as an electricity customer.

So why I am not happy if their electricity prices are competitive against the likes of the bigger players such as NPower, British Gas and Scottish Energy?

Land Rover Discovery Sport, The Good Bad and Ugly 3 Month Owners Review / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

This is my comprehensive review of what's the good, bad and ugly of a Land Rover Discover Sport after owning and driving HSE Black trim for over 3 months, of what to expect if you are considering buying one as it does take a few months of real world driving before one is fully aware of the cars good, bad and ugly points, such as the pretty feeble plastic trim that tends to surround Discovery Sports, the rattling sound that many owners tend to experience again apparently from poor quality trim.

Doritos Meltdown as Super Markets (Tesco) Say No to Voucher Winners / ConsumerWatch / Shopping

By: N_Walayat

Just enter the code on the back of the Doritos packets at the website and you will instantly know if you have won cash from £5 to £500 or a print at home voucher for free packet of Doritos which is what you are most likely to win.

Unfortunately, for winners there is a fly in the ointment in that supermarkets such as Tesco are increasingly refusing to accept any more than 1 voucher per customer PER DAY (worth upto 80p) in exchange for a free packet of Doritos as has been our recent experience at Tesco, Sheffield.

By: Anika_Walayat

Doritos latest instant win promotion currently has a 100% success rate, i.e. you have a 100% chance of WINNING a prize that ranges from free packets of crisps to £500 per day! However there appears to be a fly in the ointment, and that is when one tries to capitalise on the free pack vouchers that apparently expire in 30days! So we want hunting in Tesco, Asda and Morrisons for Doritos 55g packs with our bunch of vouchers and this is our experience.

Land Rover Discovery Sport Extreme Driving "Beast from the East" Snow Weather Test / ConsumerWatch / Motoring

By: N_Walayat

The 'Beast from the East' weather from Siberia has been hitting the UK all week since Tuesday 27th Feb, with heavy snowfall fall of between 5 cm and 15cm disrupting travel, snow flurries falling every few hours soon covering gritted roads in the coldest weather experienced for the UK since at least the past 5 years. Many motorists decided to do the sensible thing and leave their vehicles parked rather than risk driving.

However, in the interests of wanting to test the Land Rover Discovery Sport's All wheel drive and for a better look at the impact of the 'Beast from the East's heavy snowfall, I decided to hunt down some of the most badly effected roads in the city of Sheffield, none more so then those going out of the city to literally within a stones throw of Derbyshire as the this video illustrates.

Addicted to Virtual Reality - Dangers of VR Addiction After First Use! / ConsumerWatch / Virtual Reality

By: HGR

Samsung with their series of Gear VR headsets, typically for under £60, have made VR affordable to anyone with a high end Samsung smartphone. The key thing is the ease of use, just slot the phone into the headset and after a quick automated software install the user is immediately immersed in a surprisingly high resolution VR world.

However, what we may be seeing are the beginnings of a new addiction, one of the soon to be exploding epidemic of being addicted to exciting virtual reality fantasy worlds and impressive games rather than the far more mundane real world, and as this video illustrates the addiction can be near instantaneous, even after just the a few minutes of first use, so VR has a lot in common with many hard drugs!

Free 1000 Youtube Subscribers Services - YTpals, Subpals, SubmeNow Test / ConsumerWatch / Internet

By: N_Walayat

Youtube on the 20th of January decided to cut all small channels loose from their partner programme, all those channels with less than 1000 subscribers and 4k watch time who by the 20th of February will be ejected from the Youtube partner programme that amongst several benefits included monetization of videos which in most cases for Youtubers resulted in a token return of typically about $10 per month. So the blow for being ejected from the youtube partner programme is not financial but rather Youtube effectively telling its smaller youtubers to get lost, as effectively Youtube is now no longer YOUtube but instead it's Celebtube or Adtube, really just another broadcast channel full of commercialised content full of ads and NOT what YOUtube has been for the past 10 years!
