Trump & The Fed / Politics / US Politics

By: Dan_Amerman

There is critical information in the first 45 seconds of the Donald Trump campaign video below. Now the election is over, and this nonpartisan analysis is not about campaigns, politics or who should have been elected - but some absolutely fundamental changes that could be on the way.

The video was Trump's closing argument for his election, and was released on November 6th.

Midnight in America / Politics / US Politics

By: Peter_Schiff

Stunned political analysts are missing the most plausible argument explaining Donald Trump's unexpected victory. The misreading of the American electorate stems from the political class' acceptance of mistaken (and increasingly insane) economic dogma that has arisen over the past generation. Based on their flawed understanding of economics, the pundits could simply not understand why the electorate had become totally disillusioned.

After The Trump Election Triumph / Politics / US Politics

By: Dan_Steinbock

The Trump victory was a "stunning surprise" to Washington and mainstream media.  But it was very much in line with voter distrust in both Clintons and Washington’s ruling class.

Politically, Americans are fed up. In cooperation with the Democratic National Committee, the Clinton campaign had far too cozy ties with Wall Street, neoconservatives and Pentagon contractors, as well as mainstream media organizations; from CNN and New York Times to Huffington Post and Google.

America is The Poisoned Chalice / Politics / US Debt

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Neither candidate in the US presidential election has had many specifics to offer on their economic ideas and projected policies, and that may be a smart move for both. If only because none of the two has indicated any real understanding of what awaits America as per November 9. And I don’t mean where the stock markets will be tomorrow morning, or the price of gold, though short term volatility is obviously certain.

The November 7 rally on Wall Street made plenty clear where everyone’s bets are placed -on Hillary-, so much so that there’s not much of a rally left if she wins. A Trump win could well see some panic, downward pressure for the dollar and stocks, upward pressure for gold, but there’s no telling how long that would last.

Washington’s Post-Election Gridlock and Africa / Politics / US Politics

By: Dan_Steinbock

After the bizarre 2016 election, Washington faces a slate of legal investigations, a massive political gridlock, the threat of new Cold Wars and possibly a contested election. What does it mean to Africa?

Last July, FBI Director James Comey closed the probe of Hillary Clinton’s emails and decided not to pursue charges, which resulted in broad criticism. Recently, Comey re-opened the case following a discovery of new emails. In addition to the Benghazi and FBI debacles, these efforts are likely to include some 50,000 emails from Wikileaks, particularly those of John Podesta, Clinton campaign manager and chair of the Center of American Progress (CAP).

Paranoia Deepens in US as Cyber-attacks Prepare Post-Election Tumult / Politics / Cyber War

By: Jeff_Berwick

Paranoia makes whole populations manipulable. Over time, crisis after crisis, it builds globalism and creates cultural homogenization.

Just today, WikiLeaks claimed it had been hit with a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, supposedly to prevent it from distributing additional information that would prove negative to the Clinton camp.

This is part of a much larger paranoiac atmosphere. Paranoia is running rampant in US federal elections. We recognize the paranoia because we’ve covered the trends that cause it for years.

Overcoming the Middle-Income Trap with Structural Reforms / Politics / Social Issues

By: Dan_Steinbock

According to the World Bank, China is an upper-middle-income country. However, only structural reforms will allow China to surpass the middle-income trap.

According to a recent report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), China has entered the ranks of the so-called “upper-middle-income” countries. It has triggered a fair amount of interest among those Chinese who are concerned for the middle-income trap; that is, a status quo in which a country attains a certain level of income but gets stuck at that level.

Regardless of How America Votes, Americans Want a Different Foreign Policy / Politics / US Politics

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

I have said throughout this presidential campaign that it doesn't matter much which candidate wins. Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are authoritarians and neither can be expected to roll back the leviathan state that destroys our civil liberties at home while destroying our economy and security with endless wars overseas. Candidates do not matter all that much, despite what the media would have us believe. Ideas do matter, however. And regardless of which of these candidates is elected, the battle of ideas now becomes critical.

Here’s the Proven Model That Could Save Health Care and the US Economy / Politics / Healthcare Sector

By: John_Mauldin

Millions of Americans are learning just how much their Obamacare premiums will be next year. But even if you have health coverage through your employer—or you’re 65+ and on Medicare, like me—you’re going to see severe inflation in the healthcare part of your budget.

But there’s a possible solution to the healthcare problem. The Cleveland Clinic has achieved remarkable results with its 100,000+ employees and dependents. They are making people healthier and reducing medical costs. And it’s a model that I think could work on a much broader scale.

This US Election is a Chance for the Republicans to Build a New Coalition / Politics / US Politics

By: John_Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN : The election is far from over, and given the pattern of this election, nothing can be taken for granted. So while (at the moment) Hillary Clinton appears to be winning, less than two weeks remain.

I generally focus on the broad geopolitical forces that shape and reshape the world. But, there are two reasons to be interested in this US election.

First, shifts in the behavior of the US affect geopolitics globally. Second, this election has revealed some profound changes in the underlying dynamics of American politics.

Russia–US Tensions Likely to Rise in 2017 / Politics / GeoPolitics

By: John_Mauldin

There will be increased tensions between Russia and the US in the near future. That is the opinion of Jacob Shapiro, director of analysis for Geopolitical Futures. He argues that a Clinton win means the relationship between the US and Russia is going to worsen.

In an interview with Mauldin Economics, Shapiro begins by calling the Clinton campaign email leaks a “political sideshow.” He does not think it is a big deal, even if it was done by Russian hackers.

American Civil War II - Fourth Turning Intensifying (Part I) / Politics / US Politics

By: James_Quinn

"History offers even more sobering warnings: Armed confrontation usually occurs around the climax of Crisis. If there is confrontation, it is likely to lead to war. This could be any kind of war - class war, sectional war, war against global anarchists or terrorists, or superpower war. If there is war, it is likely to culminate in total war, fought until the losing side has been rendered nil - its will broken, territory taken, and leaders captured." - The Fourth Turning - Strauss & Howe -1997

Establishment Judges, Bankers Attempt to Subvert Brexit Will of the People Risking Civil War! / Politics / BrExit

By: Nadeem_Walayat

In craftily worded judgment the establishment elite comprising city bankers, business owners and elite judges have attempted to subvert the will of the British people who voted to LEAVE the European Union in their first real opportunity to vote against the establishment elite who have tended to play pass the parcel amongst themselves at each general election for at least the past 40 years!

The Office of the President of the United States / Politics / US Politics

By: Raul_I_Meijer

Amidst the epic flood of political statements and media commentary that keeps on rolling in and on, there’s something that doesn’t seem to occur to most people, and it should. That is, the unfortunate but apparently inevitable discussion about all the unfortunate and/or illegal things that either candidate may or may not have done, must be seen in the light of the capacity in which -perceived- errors or even crimes are committed. It is essential to this issue.

The Demise of the U.S. Middle Class / Politics / Social Issues

By: Harry_Dent

Our middle class has been shrinking substantially since the 1960s and ’70s. Today, their share of wealth is the lowest in the world at a mere 19.6%!

But what exactly is to blame for the demise of the middle class?

Could it be the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to China and other Asian countries?

Regardless of Who Wins the US Election, Confidence in Washington DC Is ALREADY Shattered / Politics / US Politics

By: MoneyMetals

It just doesn't matter much whether Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump wins the election, at least in terms of gold and silver market fundamentals. That said, the contest itself is signaling something important precious metals investors should be watching intently.

This campaign is dragging whatever prestige is still associated with the Office of President into the mud. Few voters on either side bother to spend much time arguing the greatness of their candidate. When both Trump and Clinton carry more baggage than American Airlines, it's easier to focus on their opponent's shortcomings.

The Fight Against The North American Union And Globalism Is In Standing Rock / Politics / US Politics

By: Jeff_Berwick

If you are one of the few people left watching the mainstream media, you’d think that the only thing currently going on has to do with Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

There is much more going on than that, however.  Aside from the ongoing military tensions with Russia and the faltering economy, there is a stand-off currently happening that is barely being reported on in the mainstream.

Blame Government, Not Markets for Monopoly / Politics / Government Intervention

By: Dr_Ron_Paul

When Time-Warner announced it planned to merge with another major communications firm, many feared the new company would exercise near-total monopoly power. These concerns led some to call for government action to block the merger in order to protect both Time-Warner's competitors and consumers.

No, I am not talking about Time-Warner's recent announced plan to merge with AT&T, but the reaction to Time-Warner's merger with (then) Internet giant AOL in 2000. Far from creating an untouchable leviathan crushing all competitors, the AOL-Time-Warner merger fell apart in under a decade.

Divergent Themes in Late 2016 / Politics / GeoPolitics

By: Andy_Sutton

Despite the arrogance, hubris, and lying (obviously – its election season!), we have never seen a cycle that has be more absent in terms of policy details worthy of analysis. Outrageous claims about job creation, making America strong, and so forth are issued, but there is no substance. We have tried on numerous occasions to find enough specifics to even perform cursory analysis and it is just not there. It is very reminiscent of Nancy Pelosi telling America in 2010 that if they wanted to read the healthcare bill they had to pass it first. This is what passes for economic jurisprudence in the Republic the founders gave us all those years ago.
