Debt, the Rogue Elephant In Our Living Room

What does “unsustainable” mean and look like with respect to our economy. Most of the public media (bubblevision), experts, pundits, economists, academics and elected officials don’t know economic history or choose to ignore it. I do believe the American people should understand these things and they aren’t taught in most universities. We need to keep our eye on the ball here and pay attention to what is being done, not what is being said. “Talk doesn’t cook rice” – Chinese proverb. This IS the elephant in our living room.
Economics has an immutable and absolute law like the 3rd law of motion revealed by Isaac Newton. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The economic equivalent is “The collapse of a speculative or credit/debt mania is equal to the delusion and deception that preceded it”. These are usually recognized by the main stream media, most economists, most talking heads and most politicians after their demise has done the most possible damage to the most people possible and without any advanced warning. These, of course, are the same people we are depending on to get us out of the mess.
I have attached a few charts to demonstrate the theory as experienced in the real world with every mania (not a few, not most, ALL, EVERY SINGLE ONE). These are just cold hard apolitical facts, they are not opinions. You may draw your own conclusions.
Most American have experienced and learned this simple truth over the past few years. If your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep will be your downfall. The current U.S. government is accelerating spending and debt at an unbelievable pace and don’t appear to understand what they are doing or care about the longer term consequences.

Now that we know how speculative and credit/debt manias end, let’s see where we are now and make a wild guess how the madness ends.
The Chart Below is for Derivatives. This is in $Trillions and yes, it is apx. 12 times world GDP. Derivatives are highly leveraged bets referred to by Warren Buffet as “Weapons of Financial Mass Destruction (WFMD)”. What could possibly destroy the largest insurance company in the world (AIG), a 160 year old big 5 broker/dealer that survived the Civil War, Crash of 1873, Panic of 1907 and the Great Depression of 1929 (Lehman Bros.) and the largest Broker Dealer (Merrill Lynch) over a weekend? Derivatives!!! What could possibly go wrong?

This is what passes for a rescue, more of the same that caused the problem to begin with.
Now at 370%+ of GDP. Please note the “little” 1929 blip and its aftermath. More of the same is the medicine chosen by B.O. and Bennie for our sick economy. This is clearly a debt that can never be paid with economic growth or earned income and is our legacy to future generations. The two foregoing charts are a result of MFOB (Morbidly and Fatally Obese Bureaucracy) which is growing at a record pace. The first rule of holes is “when you find yourself in one, STOP DIGGING”. More and bigger government is not the answer, it is the problem. The money will be paid but it will not be earned, it will be printed!!! “Inflate or Die”!
California is the poster child for out-of-control government and an excellent example of the National picture on a smaller scale. It is just a coincidence that Pelosi, Waxman, Boxer and Feinstein are from California.
