Google Panics and KILLS YouTube to Appease Mainstream Media and Corporate Advertisers / Companies / Google

By: Nadeem_Walayat

March's advertisers revolt that saw the mainstream media and corporations apparently suddenly woke up to the fact that some of their ads were appearing against extremist videos, threatened to pull their ads from Google the owner of Youtube, has literally sent the Tek giant into a panic. A case of slash and burning Youtube of ad placements on every topic that could potentially be perceived as not being advertiser friendly, and this is not just the usual suspects of guns, violence and border line criminality, but comedy, satire, reviews, politics, even finance amongst many other topics are taking a major hit as google pulls their ad revenue plug resulting in many channels seeing more than 99% of their earnings disappear over night, all to placate the advertisers.

Meet the Leader Who Turned Google Into a “Buy” / Companies / Google

By: ...

MoneyMorning.com Michael A. Robinson writes: For more than a year now, I have been one of the few analysts saying Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOGL) was set for a rally.

In several of our chats I’ve said that with this one stock you get both an ETF on the future and a company that produces great profit margins today.

To be sure, the stock lagged the overall market over the past few months. That’s largely because industry analysts thought Google’s futuristic ambitions would shred profits.

The Singularity Means that Google Could Dominate the Future / Companies / Google

By: Money_Morning

Michael A. Robinson writes: You’d be hard pressed to find two guys more different than Warren Buffett and Ray Kurzweil.

Buffett, probably the world’s most famous investor, had steered clear of high tech until just the last few years, saying he didn’t understand the field.

Kurzweil, on the other hand, has pushed the boundaries of innovation for more than five decades. As a teenager, he created a groundbreaking computer program that could play classical music and netted him an appearance on the TV game show I’ve Got a Secret.

This is one of the tech sector's most exciting fields, one I believe offers plenty of long-term upside.

Google Isn’t as Expensive as You May Believe / Companies / Google

By: InvestmentContrarian

George Leong writes: For all of you who are attracted by the battered price of Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ/FB), I suggest you keep on reading: Google Inc. (NASDAQ/GOOG) is the top player in the Internet space, in spite of it hitting an all-time record high of $776.60 last Friday, and here’s why.

My stock analysis indicates that some of you may feel that, at nearly $800.00 a share, Google is valued at way too lofty a price. Moreover, some may be spooked by the recent collapse of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ/AAPL) on the price chart after trading at over $705.00 a share in September 2012. What I would say to you is that Google is not Apple, and it’s definitely a much better company than Facebook, based on my stock analysis.

At just over $700.00 a share, you may think the stock is expensive. On an absolute basis, a $700.00-plus stock is not cheap, but on a valuation and comparative basis, Google is still tops, according to my stock analysis.

By: MISES

According to Nextag (who?) CEO Jeffrey Katz, "Google rigs the results" of searches to give preferential treatment to its own businesses. Yelp (who, again?) CEO Jeremy Stoppelman claimed, "Google is no longer in the business of sending people to the best destinations on the Web. It has everything to do with generating more revenue." Senator Mike Lee of Utah charged the search engine of having "clear and inherent conflict of interest."

Google Plus: Learning from Buzz Failure / Companies / Google

By: Jeffrey_A_Tucker

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleAbout 14 months ago, Google released what turned out to be the biggest flop in the company's history. It was called Buzz. The idea was to leverage its email war chest to create a social network to compete directly with Twitter and Facebook.

It released Buzz all at once and activated it immediately. Buzz even prepopulated its networks with the user's most commonly emailed friends, whether that was your pastor or your drinking buddies. That was the strategic error that revealed the underlying problem. All in an instant, worlds crashed, and people went absolutely nuts trying to shut it off.

Inflation Hits Google, Share Price Falls 14% / Companies / Google

By: PhilStockWorld

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleWell who'd have thunk it?

The cost of doing business is rising and GOOG happens to be one of those businesses that lacks pricing power as their rates are generally set through an auction process and their users have to VOLUNTEER to pay more money to advertise.  Most advertisers on Google are on fixed budgets, like MSM advertisers and Google has done a great job of replicating that model.  Why then, should it be surprising if a maturing Google begins to look more like a traditional media outlet than a dot com company with exploding growth?

Google Advertising revenues to pass UK Commercial TV Stations - Channel 4 / Companies / Google

By: Phillipa_Green

Google will earn more advertising revenue in the UK this year than Channel 4. Who's chief executive warned the TV industry that they had underestimated the threat from the internet. Andy Duncan said some traditional broadcasters had been slow to recognise the challenge posed by the internet and multi-channel TV, which cut into the audience and ad revenues of terrestrial broadcasters.

'This, reinforces that significant structural change has been going on and will continue to go on,' Duncan said.

Some broadcasters have been very slow to realise this. The industry as a whole is frankly rather backward looking and is perhaps underestimating the scale of change that is going on and the pace of change. Duncan said Channel 4, which is publicly owned but funded by advertising, had had an “incredibly good year”, increasing its audience share by 10% and boosting its share of the ad market. This made the comparison to the search engine all the more striking, he said.
