Stock Market at the Edge of a Precipice.... / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Jack_Steiman

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDow and across the board for that matter. The market should have followed through to the upside on Friday, but could never get going and ended up closing basically near the lows. Exactly the opposite of what I thought would take place. My thinking couldn't have been more wrong. When you get a 1 point Doji on an 8000 index such as the Dow off a downtrend of 600 points, you should get a reversal the next day 99% of the time.  Friday was the 1%. Only in this bear market, I guess. Another reason why you can't get aggressive.

Stock Market Back-and-Fill Session Has Disappointing Close / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Harry_Boxer

The stock market indices ended the week on a down note, but they certainly had some volatility. Initially, the markets sold off from the opening on Friday, held support, and then bounced to new rally highs, reaching 1250 NDX and 840 SPX. But that was right at important secondary resistance. They failed to get through, and then had an orderly 5-wave decline that lasted until mid-day. Just before lunch hour the indices reached support and bounced sharply to retest the highs but fell short, pulled back again late afternoon, bounced in the last hour but again couldn't get through and in the last 5 minutes sold off quite sharply, with the NDX dropping 8 points and the S&P 500 more than 6 points.

Stock Market Volatile Session Ends Higher on Mortgage Subsidy News / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Harry_Boxer

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThe markets had quite a volatile session with four major substantial intraday swings that created a day of volatility for sure. Net on the day the indices closed slightly higher for the most part, except for the Dow, which was down a tad. The day started out with a big gap down. They tested the lows and actually took them out on the S&P 500 and slightly so on the Nasdaq 100, but rallied back off of 1205 NDX and 812 SPX and staged a strong 5-wave rally that lasted into late morning. The NDX moved from 1205 to 1240, and the SPX trailed, only moving from about the 812 area to 827.

Stock Market Bloodbath on Treasury Secretary's News / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Harry_Boxer

The markets ended in a bloodbath today with extremely negative numbers across the board. The indices did rally after a negative opening, and the NDX and S&P 500 retested yesterday's highs, but they stopped in their tracks and reversed.

Financials XLF and Transports IYT Sectors Win the Day for Stock Indices / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Jack_Steiman

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThursday night I wrote about how we had a stand off in the making with the Financial Select Sector ETF (XLF) and the iShares Dow Jones Transportation ETF (IYT) flashing strong positive divergences on their daily charts versus strong price resistance based on the proximity of the 20 and 50 day moving averages. I felt fairly confident the divergences would win out because it was the first time in quite a long time that both of these critically important sectors had those divergences and they did so compressed far below the 0 line. This is when positive divergences have the best chance of playing out in a bullish fashion.

Awaiting the Peak in the Stock Market Countertrend UpMove / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Mike_Paulenoff

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIf nothing else, then the next few days will make or break the current upmove in the equity market. Either the advance will feed on itself in conjunction with -- and reaction to -- all of the government-generated news, programs, and monetary support designed to lift the economy out of its deep recession, or, alternatively, will reveal itself as a classic, sharp recovery rally that turns out to be a massive Bull Trap prior to another vicious downleg.

Dow Jones Gives It all Back in Dangerous Volatile Trading Session / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Kingsley_Anderson

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleSo much for progress. After a rather impressive move yesterday, the DJIA faltered and fell below 8000 once again. The index is sitting just at support. Once again, it fell below the trendline created in January (see the chart below).

Stock Market Reverses Early Strong Rally to Close Lower / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Harry_Boxer

The indices had an extremely strong start and a very promising morning. They ran up sharply, broke out across short-term resistance, and soared to test last week's highs on the Nasdaq 100 up near 1245, and reached just over 850 on the S&P 500. They pulled back over the next few hours in an orderly fashion, but when they couldn't break to the upside, they accelerated to the downside. In the last couple hours they backed and filled in a consolidative manner, but it looked like late bear flags were forming.

Critical Week for the Stock Market / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Marty_Chenard

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIt was on October 24th., that the VIX (Volatility Index) had hit its high.  The VIX moves opposite to the market, so a high on the VIX should normally correspond with a low on the S&P 500.

But ... that wasn't the case.   It wasn't until almost a month later that the S&P 500 finally hit its low.   (The S&P low was on November 21st. ... at 11:30 AM on a 60 minute chart.)

Stock Market January Losses May Not Bode Well For Bulls / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Kingsley_Anderson

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleTwo days after a fiery rally that broke through resistance, the indexes have been pushed back into their previous trading ranges. If you are going either long or short, this is indeed a frustrating market.

The positive aspects of today's decline was that while volume was higher than the previous day, it is still rather low. Investors should also consider the movement of the VIX . While it has increased over the last two days, it is still caught in a downtrend. The 50 dma is slowly rolling over while the 200 dma is bound to be tested soon.

Stock Market Eroding Towards A Breakdown..... / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Jack_Steiman

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleThere have been so many head fakes in this three month lateral range that you don't get your hopes up when it looks like a more directional play is about to be in play. 805 is the number where massive support comes in to play and we have held easily above for a while. 860 was strong resistance and we did take that level out only to lose it right back and now we're headed back down again. There has simply been too many pieces of bad news from the economic data as well as earnings over the past few days to keep the bulls in charge for more than a day or so or until we get to important resistance.

Waiting for the Next Stock Market Rally / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Kingsley_Anderson

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleIf you have been watching the news, plenty of analysts and commentators, especially the perma -bulls, are falling over themselves because the market put in three positive days in a row. That is all fine and good, but one really needs to look at the charts to see the true picture.

Trigger Happy Stock Market Trading / Stock-Markets / Stock Index Trading

By: Joseph_Russo

The November Low - In direct contrast to our previous piece exploring the current onset of Super-Cycle Wave IV , we will now take a closer look at the November low, and review the price action since then relative to speculative trading strategies. The small chart plots three months of daily closes for the Dow Jones Industrials. It shows that the move up toward the January high was clearly corrective.
