UK Christmas Early Sales, 50% Discounts for European Shoppers / Personal_Finance / Money Saving

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleUK retail sales are experiencing a Christmas boom that looks set to hit a new record, boosted by buying from our European cousins as distressed retailers bring forward the January sales in the face of fierce competition for foot fall between retailers. The ongoing crash of the British Pound has taken sterling to just a a whisker away from parity to the Euro, now down by more than 30% from its high which means the already liberally advertised 20% discounts translate into a 50% discount for European shoppers, much as Briton's benefited not so long ago from the cheap shopping trips to New York at an exchange rate north of £/$2.00.

Is Credit Card Relief Coming? / Personal_Finance / Credit Cards & Scoring

By: Mike_Shedlock

Credit card defaults are soaring. And banks after having fought credit card reform for years are now in panic mode over losses.

Newsday.Com asks Is Credit Card Relief Coming?
Banks, which are losing billions because many card holders aren't paying anything, seek OK to forgive up to 40% of strapped consumers' debts. Big banks have formed an unusual alliance with consumer advocates to urge the government to allow huge portions of credit card debt to be forgiven, a turnabout from recent years when the banking industry lobbied strenuously to make it harder for consumers to erase their credit card debts in bankruptcy.

Elegant Market-based Solution to the Financial Crisis / Personal_Finance / Credit Crisis 2008

By: David_Haas

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleTHE PROBLEM: In a strange and awkward way, some of us here in the mezzanine have experienced a rather morbid and dark sort of enjoyment as we watch those on stage who created the world-altering credit crisis, and the governments who enabled it, squirm and writhe - like a child caught in his first big lie - as they attempt to sort out the consequences of what they've done. What we see from our vantage point is, instead of coming clean, they continue adding layer-upon-layer of ever-glossier, ever-less-credible volumes to their original prevarications. In my opinion, this is EXACTLY NOT what the world needs right now.
