Time to Get Rich, the Compounding Process / Personal_Finance / Learning to Invest

By: Gary_North

Diamond Rated - Best Financial Markets Analysis Article"If I had just known at age 18 what I know today!" That lament is among the most universal among people aged 50 or older. Is there any society in which it cannot be heard?

I was reminded of this when I watched a video of half a dozen of coach John Wooden's most talented basketball players. It was produced in 2010, just after his death at age 99. He had retired 35 years earlier, yet he was still remembered and admired.

Cushion Your Retirement by Investing in IRAs / Personal_Finance / Pensions & Retirement

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleLarry D. Spears writes: If I were to recommend a stock and guarantee a return of 10% to 28% on your investment in a single day, you'd no doubt line up at your broker's door to place your orders.

But then why do so many people fail to make the maximum contribution to their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)? After all, in its traditional version, an IRA offers exactly the same return, depending on your personal tax bracket.

By: Nadeem_Walayat

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleWith UK Inflation soaring on even the governments preferred measure of CPI at 4%, which stands against the more recognised RPI rate at 5.1% and real inflation as experienced by most of the population at 6.6%, UK savers continue to have the real terms value of their life time accumulated savings effectively stolen so as to bolster the bankrupt bailed out banks balance sheets, savers can lessen the stealth theft of wealth by utilising their annual cash ISA allowances before the end of the current tax year (5th April 2011) as it is a case of use it or lose it.

What You Should Do to Cut Your Energy Bill / Personal_Finance / Gas - Petrol

By: Sean_Brodrick

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleA Modern American uses about as much energy as a blue whale. That’s not an easy feat, considering that blue whales outweigh us — even us supersized Americans — 2,285 to 1. But this has consequences for the whole world because the whole world wants to live like big, fat Americans, and the world can’t support 7 billion blue whales.

Stop Accumulating Additional Debt, 2011 To-Do List / Personal_Finance / Debt & Loans

By: Andy_Sutton

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleMany people I’ve spoken with over the past 6 months or so have expressed extreme dissatisfaction with their individual and/or collective ability to affect change in government. Sure, there have been some small victories here and there, but by and large our biggest problems continue to rage on unabated. For quite some time I shared in their frustration, and still do, but have realized that sometimes the actions of the masses need to take place on a different level to change the bigger paradigms. To use some old adages, we shouldn’t throw stones from a glass house, and we should certainly tend to our own backyard before criticizing that of our neighbor. On this last day of 2010, let’s take a look at what we can do in our own financial lives to improve our situations. Let’s call it trickle-up responsibility.

Is Putin pitiable, or is the FT corrupt? / Personal_Finance / Mainstream Media

By: Eric_Kraus

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleReading the FT on Russia, what is interesting is not what they write – it is why they write it. A friend of T&B was told face-to-face about six months ago by an FT editor that, as a journalist here, one’s role has to be ”to write about how awful Russia is”. (While, admittedly, T&B does not know many FT journalists in Poland, Belgium or Mexico, we strongly suspect that they have an entirely different mandate. Only in Russia has the paper descended to outright advocacy…)
