Petrobras (PBR) Destined to Pass ExxonMobil as Global Oil Colossus / Companies / Oil Companies

By: Trader_Mark

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleI have not written about Brazilian oil giant Petrobras (PBR) because frankly the stock has been a quite poor performer due to its pseudo government-private stature.  Sort of the Fannie Mae of oil production.  With the recent spike in oil, the stock has perked up, but some horrid terms on a share sale put immense pressure on the name through most of 2010.

By: Trader_Mark

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleAfter torching short sellers for seemingly years on end, it might be ironic that Netflix (NFLX) topped within days of the date (Feb 10th) famed fund manager Whitney Tilson finally threw in the towel on his unsuccesful short.  The stock peaked 4 days later.

BP Poised to Test Rally Peak / Companies / Oil Companies

By: Mike_Paulenoff

BP plc (NYSE: BP) gapped up this morning and has made a new recovery high at 49.10 so far, on the way to testing its prior significant rally peak at 49.50 from Jan 14.

My near-term work argues in favor of a test and hurdle of 49.50 into the 49.70/90 area prior to the "need" for a correction of the larger upmove off the Feb 11 pivot low at 45.55.

Tech Stocks Set to Fuel Resurgent U.S. IPO Market / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleJason Simpkins writes: After falling off the radar for three years, the U.S. IPO market is off to its best start since before the financial crisis. And with several high profile technology companies set to go public this year, it's likely to carry that momentum forward.

Companies around the globe have raised more than $26 billion through initial public offerings (IPOs) this year, a 20% increase over last year and the best start on record, according to Dealogic. Globally, 15 IPOs were crammed into the first two weeks of February - a month that last year had seen a total of just four IPOs.

By: Money_Morning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleLarry D. Spears writes: Money Morning on Feb. 9 described the profit potential of companies that are dealing with the world's water crisis, noting that 1.15 billion people around the globe currently lack access to clean water supplies.

However, even more people - 2.6 billion, according to the World Water Council - live in areas without adequate sanitation, making waste management an equally pressing global concern.

Time of Truth for Amgen / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

The time of truth for Amgen (AMGN) in the aftermath of its vertical decline from the Jan 25 high at 58.19 to its Feb 24 low at 50.61.

Let's notice that on the enclosed weekly chart that last week's violation of a near two-year support line at 52.60 followed-through to the downside to 50.61 last Thursday, but then AMGN reversed powerfully to the upside -- perhaps in reaction to positive news about its phase 3 study on cancer drug XGEVA.

Opportunity Knocks For Mobile Computing Stocks / Companies / Tech Stocks

By: Money_Morning

Jon D. Markman writes: Stocks swung from the rafters over the past week with a sense of drama that has been missing for the several months as bulls and bears battled over the 1,300 level of the S&P 500.

Like many round numbers of the past three years, this level is the dividing line between the view of optimists and pessimists, and it looks to me like the optimists are on the verge of another big win.

Anticipating BP's Breakout / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

Although crude is circling unchanged today, BP plc (NYSE: BP) acts well technically. The stock continues to carve out a series of higher lows off its recent February upleg rally peak at 48.28.

The most recent pullback lows at 46.90 (Feb 22) and at 47.40 (Feb 24), followed by rallies into the 48.20/30 area, continues to put intense upward pressure on the 48.00-48.30 Jan-Feb resistance plateau. If and when hurdled, this should trigger upside acceleration towards a full-fledged retest of the Jan high at 49.50 next.

Good Relative Strength for RIMM / Companies / Company Chart Analysis

By: Mike_Paulenoff

Research in Motion (RIMM) exhibits relative strength today despite overall market weakness. Let's take a fresh look at its big picture chart pattern.

From a relatively near-term pattern perspective, RIMM hurdled key 8-month resistance at 62.70-63.30 in early Feb and followed through to its Feb 18 high at 70.54. Since then, RIMM has pulled back about 8.5% right to the top of the prior resistance plateau -- which is now important and substantial support.

Extraordinary Technology, Robotics - Where Are We Today? / Companies / Technology

By: Doug_Horning

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleDoug Hornig, Editor, Casey’s Extraordinary Technology writes: In the field of robotics, we have no Newton. No one who, assisted by a falling fruit, cried out, “Eureka, I have it, and it is called a… I know… a robot.”

No, the concept of a robot first occurred to some unknown person in some far distant time, as he or she, engaged in a grinding, repetitive task, dreamed of a mechanical contrivance that could do some of the dirty work. We know that moment was more than five hundred years ago, because we have sketchbooks from the incomparable Leonardo da Vinci, dated 1495, that contain detailed plans for one.

NetFlix, Butterflies and Option Expiration / Companies / Options & Warrants

By: J_W_Jones

Best Financial Markets Analysis Article“I love the smell of napalm in the morning” Lt Col Bill Kilgore, Apocalypse Now

One of the opportunities available to the knowledgeable options trader is the ability to capitalize on major price movements while maintaining an acceptable risk profile. These opportunities are particularly attractive when they occur late in the options cycle because of the rapidly accelerating decay of the time premium of options. In appropriately structured positions, this time decay can be a wind at your back as the time premium relentlessly goes to zero at the closing bell on options expiration Friday.

Could Disaster Be Brewing Inside These Popular ETFs? / Companies / Exchange Traded Funds

By: Jared_Levy

Best Financial Markets Analysis ArticleI feel it's our duty here at Smart Investing Daily not only to help you discover new and unique investment opportunities and tactics, but also to warn you of impending potential disasters.

Looking at the financial markets on the surface, many experts are saying that it seems a little "overbought." There is no doubt I am in that camp, but now I am gaining more conviction. Experts use things like price/earnings multiples and technical formations to make these determinations. They also look at the past to make future forecasts.

Stock Price Recovery Rallies for GM, Ford / Companies / US Auto's

By: Mike_Paulenoff

General Motors (GM) and Ford (F) present very different near-term chart structures, with GM exhibiting a more constructive near term pattern than Ford. Nonetheless, both names are in different phases of recovery rallies off of their early February lows.

Reviewing the 60-minute comparison chart on both, we see that Ford's Jan double-top at 18.97 and 18.88 ended the upleg off of the June 29 low at 9.75. Ford has come off the Feb 3 low at 15.10 and is flagging in the mid-15 range.
