The West's Reckless Rush Towards War with Russia / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Dr_Martenson
We're taking big risks for unclear reasons
For reasons that have no rational explanations at this time, the US and Europe have embarked on a concerted program to demonize Putin, ostracize Russia, and bring the world as close to a major conflict as it's been since the Cold War, a time hardly memorable to many in the current crop of our elected officials.
Within hours of the MH-17 plane crash, the United States pinned the blame on Russia generally, and Putin particularly. The anti-Putin propaganda (and if there were a stronger term I'd use it) has been relentless and almost comically over-the-top (see image above, and those below).

Echoes Of The Great War – Only An Echo In The Elite Mind / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Andrew_McKillop
Then and Now
There are plenty of similarities, and vast differences between 1914 and 2014. Just for starters, what is called “public opinion” in western society practically did not exist at all in the run-up to world war in 1914. Today it exists but is heavily mutated and totally unpredictable compared with even 20 years ago.

Designer War By Default - Seven Types of Elite Madness / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Andrew_McKillop
The straight majority of all major wars, and many minor wars are disputed as to their exact causes and origins. Historians debating the causes, in the plural, of World War I are still far from any consensus on how this war started. Put another way, their causes are unknown or even impossible to know.
Eccentric, strange or deranged political decisions and elite behaviour obviously aid the process. Elites living in a special world where fantasy blots out reality can easily have what is called a split mind. Also called schizophrenia, its earliest definition and clinical description of how schizoid denial of reality works was in 1911, by the Swiss psychologist Eugen Bleuler.

An Economic “Nuclear Strike” on Moscow, A “War of Degrees” / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Money_Morning
Dr. Kent Moors writes: Around 8:30 tonight, I’ll be live on Chinese national TV again, just before the markets open in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
This audience is usually larger than the entire U.S population, and the anchors always give me more time than any other outlet in the world.

The End Of Nations Or The End Of History? / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Andrew_McKillop
Dancing at the Victims' Ball
By July 1794, with the surprise execution of ace executioner Maximilien de Robespierre, who himself had probably ordered more than 5000 killings by the then-newfangled and dreaded guillotine in the French revolution, faction rivalry akin to the type that sets Al Qaeda against ISIS in the Middle East today was so intense that a new wave of Terror was at hand. Called counter-revolution by some, and even the “death of History” by others, the call for Saving the Nation was going to be a powerful excuse for new purges, plots and bloody repression.

Ukraine MH17 Crisis - Best Remember Who Your Friends Are / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Raul_I_Meijer
A very impressive procession of hearses, containing the first 40 of the 298 caskets that will have to be ‘processed’, is going on as I speak in Holland, and has been for hours of slow driving, broadcast on live national TV. It’s a 100 mile or so distance, with thousands upon thousands of people along the route paying respect, from the airport where they landed form Ukraine to the facilities where they’ll be identified.

MH17 Crash Next Phase Economic Warfare / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Raul_I_Meijer
Amidst the heightened media hysteria that expresses itself in claims of an “increasing burden of proof” of Putin and separatist involvement in the MH17 crash, where there is still no proof anywhere to be seen after 5 days, events are taking a sharp left (can’t bring myself to say ‘right’) turn towards a new, next, phase. Which promises to not be pretty. It’s, as we say, on.

'Mysterious' Plane Crash - Who benefits? / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: LewRockwell
David A. Stockman writes: More and more bizarre info. and allegations keep popping up about the latest “mysterious plane plane crash”!
One U.S. Media Flash this morning says the pilot asked the Ukrainian air controllers for permission to fly at 35,000 ft. but was denied that request and had to stay a half mile lower–to make it an easier target, I imagine–but the “story line” said nothing about that possibility.

Germany Pivoting East, Exit US Dollar, Enter Gold Standard / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Jim_Willie_CB
It is finally happening in full view, in unmistakable manner, in a way that the awake, the aware, and the conscious can perceive in alarming stunning terms. The central force of Europe, the industrial juggernaut, the stable core, has begun to pivot East. The Germans have had enough, fed up with destructive US activities of all kinds. For the last few months, they have been laying out their indictment, their justification, their reasons to abandon the corrupt US-UK crowd. The bank wreckage, the market rigging, the endless wars, the sanctions which backfire, the sham monetary policy, the economic sabotage, the spying, the gold gimmicks, it has finally reached a critical level.

The Impacts of US Supremacy in West Asia and India / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Submissions
Srinivasan Rangaraj writes: The effect of the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East countries is to such an extent that it erodes the global economy in the larger fashion. Since most of the global land, whether they may be developing or developed nations, import oil barrels from the west Asian countries for the most of their oil requirements, any break out of war, in this region, lead the economies of these countries to a devastating state of affairs.

The Inevitability of U.S. Foreign Entanglements / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: STRATFOR
George Friedman writes: The Fourth of July weekend gave me time to consider events in Iraq and Ukraine, U.S.-German relations and the Mexican borderland and immigration. I did so in the context of the founding of the United States, asking myself if America has strayed from the founders' intent with regard to foreign policy. Many people note Thomas Jefferson's warning that the United States should pursue "peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations -- entangling alliances with none," taking that as the defining strategy of the founders. I think it is better to say that was the defining wish of the founders but not one that they practiced to extremes.

Similarities Between 1914 And 2014 / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: GoldSilverWorlds
As we approach the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, the (non-mainstream) media is starting to talk about the parallels between then and now. Could it be true that there are similarities? In this article, I would like to discuss some of the intriguing, and frankly disturbing, parallels I see between the period just prior to WWI and today. I think that understanding these parallels is of utmost importance, not only because the events leading up to WWI are, in my view, also the indirect cause of the Second World War, but they are important to understand the similar problems we could be facing today.

Russia, Iraq, China and Europe - The Four Horsemen of the Geopolitical Apocalypse / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: John_Mauldin
Ian Bremmer, NYU professor and head of the geopolitical consulting powerhouse Eurasia Group, consults at the highest levels with both governments and companies because he brings to the table robust geopolitical analysis and a compelling thesis: that we are witnessing “the creative destruction of the old geopolitical order.” We live, as his last book told us, in a “G-0” world. In today’s Outside the Box, Ian spells out what that creative destruction means in terms of events on the ground today. As Ian notes, the most prominent feature of the international landscape this year has been the expansion of geopolitical conflict. That expansion is gaining momentum, he says, creating larger-scale crises and sharpening market volatility.

Thawing U.S.-Cuba Relations / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: STRATFOR
A breakthrough in U.S.-Cuba relations may be in the offing. On June 14, Uruguayan President Jose Mujica delivered a letter from U.S. President Barack Obama to Cuban President Raul Castro, according to Uruguayan media June 20, containing an offer to begin talks on a variety of issues, most prominently Washington's longstanding economic embargo. According to Uruguayan media, Obama had asked Mujica to help him improve relations with the island nation when Mujica was in Washington in mid-May. If the report is true, the transaction could be the first step toward reconciliation.

The Death Of Nations And The No-Nation Paradigm / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Andrew_McKillop
The Neolibs Said
Concerning western societies and nations, the “new economy” ideologues of the early 1980s can be blamed for the rot. They intensely argued for the total triumph of a magic disembodied thing called “the market” which would sweep away all traces of antique leftovers from the 18th century – the nation states. Everybody would move up and on to “the market”. It would be self-organizing and self-running, and (of course) capitalist, reproducing the Adam Smith paradigm of individual greed somehow producing or resulting in collective good. That can only make sense!

Dumbing Down D-Day / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Andrew_McKillop
Darwin Couldn't Explain
If he was still alive, Darwin would have big problems explaining Dumbed Down D-Day. It wasn't natural evolution. It was probably “saltationist evolution” literally meaning an evolutionary leap – in the dark. D-Day ceremonies are laughed off by some, as antique or even pathetic, but that ignores their strange or bizarre evolution, showing that something else is happening.

The Battle of Midway / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Fred_Sheehan
The Battle of Midway was fought 72 years ago, from June 4, 1942 to June 7, 1942. Air strikes from U.S. aircraft carriers maimed beyond repair the four Japanese aircraft carriers. The Japanese fleet, and Japan, never recovered.
Less than six months earlier, on December 7, 1941, the Japanese attack swept across the Pacific. Franklin Roosevelt, in his "Day of Infamy" speech, told the damage:

U.S. Mainstream Media Ignores Putin’s Peace Plan / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Mike_Whitney
“Let me repeat again, that in Russia’s view, the blame for the crisis in Ukraine lies with those who organized the coup d’etat in Kiev on February 22-23… But whatever the case, we must look for a way to solve the situation as it is today….And, as I said, what is needed is direct, full-fledged and equal dialogue between the Kiev authorities and the representatives of people in southeast Ukraine….I don’t know whether a Geneva-2 round of talks.. is realistic. (But) I believe that if we want to find a long-term solution to the crisis, there must be an open, honest and equal dialogue . That is our only option.” -Russian President Vladimir Putin, press statement, OCSE meeting, Moscow, May 7, 2014

Russian Borderlands: The View from Azerbaijan / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: STRATFOR
I arrive in Azerbaijan as the country celebrates Victory Day, the day successor states of the former Soviet Union celebrate the defeat of Germany in World War II. No one knows how many Soviet citizens died in that war -- perhaps 22 million. The number is staggering and represents both the incompetence and magnificence of Russia, which led the Soviets in war. Any understanding of Russia that speaks of one without the other is flawed.

Putin's Flaky Ritual Of May 8th / Politics / GeoPolitics
By: Andrew_McKillop
Putin Celebrates VE Day His Own Way
What are dubbed the “western allies” of the USA – Great Britain, France and Germany – joined with the US, or at least with Obama, to celebrate the total defeat of Nazi Germany on May 8, 1945. This is called VE Day for Victory Europe Day - but Vladimir Putin wasn't there.
He went to Crimea to celebrate the Russian version of VE Day, which is May 9. This drew stern editorials in the glove puppet media and howls of protest from Obama, Cameron, Hollande and Merkel. All four of them - including Merkel.
