Pensions Are On The Way Out But Retirement Funds Are Not Working Either / Personal_Finance / Pensions & Retirement

By: John_Mauldin

US law provides for many kinds of tax-advantaged retirement plans. They fall into two broad groups: defined-benefit (DB) and defined-contribution (DC) plans.

Defined-benefit plans are mostly the old-style pensions. They came with a gold watch and ensured you some level of benefit for the rest of your life.

Your employer would invest part of your compensation in the plan, based on some formula. In some cases, you, the worker, might have added more money to the pot.

  3. Maybe investing it
  4. Fully funding your retirement accounts
  5. Retiring comfortably

It doesn’t matter what you do for a living or how much you make. I know people who have never made more than a five-figure income and are millionaires (true story—more on this later).

By: MoneyFacts

As a new tax year approaches, savers may well be readying their cash to invest in a new ISA, but the latest research by Moneyfacts.co.uk reveals why savers should still consider maximising their Personal Savings Allowance (PSA) for bigger returns.

Since April 2016, savers have been given an individual Personal Savings Allowance to earn a portion of savings income or interest tax-free, with basic rate (20%) tax payers given a £1,000 allowance and higher rate (40%) taxpayers getting £500. According to some analysts there are emerging signs of life in the UK savings markets, so as the tax year draws to a close I take a look at if the Cash ISA market is finally starting to offer some hope to Britain's savers after a near 5 years of a catastrophic downward death spiral in interest rates, one of being ripped off by the tax payer bailed out banking crime syndicate that for the duration has continued to bank bonuses on artificial profits engineered by the Bank of England in an attempt at recapitalisng the bankrupt banks all whilst the savers continue to suffer and pay the price in terms of loss of purchasing power of savings by means of sub inflation interest rates.
