Mayhem at Sheffield Street Tree Protests, Police, Bouncers and Multiple Assaults / Local / Sheffield

By: N_Walayat

There was literally mayhem on the streets of Sheffield this week as Meersbrook Park Road (MPR) descended into chaos as protestors campaigning to prevent Amey from felling the remaining trees still standing on MPR were met by force from more than a dozen Amey HiViz security bouncers / doormen resulting in multiple assaults taking place all whilst the half dozen or so police offciers watched on in silence, failing to intervene or respond to pleas from the residents and wider public on the road that day.

Gold Price Upleg Breaking Out / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: Zeal_LLC

Gold’s strong upleg accelerated this week, powering to major new breakout highs.  Speculators rushed to buy gold futures following surprising weak-dollar comments from the US Treasury Secretary, which hit the US dollar hard.  That boosted gold to critical technical levels that should really intensify the shift back to bullish psychology.  This mounting gold breakout confirms gold’s bull market is very much alive and well.

While this week’s surge put gold on many more traders’ radars, it has actually been picking up steam for 6 weeks now.  Gold’s latest major interim low of $1242 came a couple days before the Fed’s latest rate hike in mid-December.  The gold-futures speculators who dominate this metal’s short-term price action have always had a deep and irrational fear of Fed rate hikes.  Historically gold has thrived in rate-hike cycles!

Davos – My Personal Experience of the $100,000 Event, $60 Burgers, Massive Inequality and Blockchain Revolution / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2018

By: GoldCore

– Davos elite hear warnings of complacency akin to 2007 as economic risks grow
– Toxic mix of infallible belief, arrogance, megalomania and economic ignorance
– Some express concern economies are vulnerable due to imbalances, trade, geo-political tensions
– Soros: Trump creating ‘mafia state’ & ‘set on a course towards nuclear war’ with N Korea
– Bond bear market, rising interest rates and massive $233 trillion debt are some of the many threats to global stability
– Davos theme explores massive inequality across the globe while eating $60 hamburgers
– Thousand private jets fly as some attendees lecture poor and middle classes about their fossil fuel consumption

– Blockchain has potential to revolutionise the world of money and foster equality – if not co-opted by elites
– Better spending $100,000 on physical gold stored in vault in Switzerland then $100k to attend Davos

Sell the Stock Market Rally! / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018

By: Anthony_Cherniawski

Good Morning!

SPX futures are higher, but no new records. Today is day 253 of the Master Cycle that began at the May 18, 2017 low. As mentioned, we may call this an inverted Master Cycle because of its uninterrupted rally since then. An inverted Master Cycle may also mean the end of a trend, since it sows the seeds of its own destruction. While the uptrend hasn’t yet been broken, the range of the consolidation is becoming narrower and may lead to a breakout or breakdown.

2018: Yearly Forecasts for Systemic Breakdown / Stock-Markets / Financial Crisis 2018

By: Jim_Willie_CB

The following Jackass forecasts listed within the article for this new year are fully consistent with the Hat Trick Letter analysis over the last few years. All are on the verge of occurrence. If even one quarter of these calls comes into reality, the world will become a better place. In the current year upon us, the following events will begin to take form in some path with recognized progress. The result will be truly frightening, as all known tenets are either swept aside or profoundly questioned. Many of the listed events have begun to take form with some initial progress. The magnificent event that occurred ten years ago has been called the Global Financial Crisis, centered and triggered by the Lehman Brothers failure as a firm. It was actually a suffocation event with killjob, whereby both Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan bought several $billion in Lehman mortgage bonds and never paid for them, thereby killing Lehman from a very severe sudden liquidity drain. What happened in 2007 (initial bust symptoms) and 2008 (final crisis unfolding) was horrible and quite devastating. What comes in 2018 in the systemic breakdown and global crisis will be triple in magnitude of damage and triple in breadth with range of extended wreckage. This year will see sovereign bonds enter failure, in an unprecedented manner.

What Could Push Crude Oil To $100? / Commodities / Crude Oil

By: OilPrice_Com

If anyone thought the latest oil market outlooks of the EIA and the IEA are upbeat, here’s an even more upbeat one from Energy Aspects: The consultancy expects crude demand this year to grow by 1.7 million bpd, and says Brent could touch above $100 a barrel in 2019.

According to Energy Aspects, the reason for the further jump in prices will be a drop in new production outside the U.S. shale patch. It’s a little hard to buy that, however, if one remembers that there is 1.8 million bpd in production capacity ready to be tapped again once OEPC and Russia taper their production cuts. That alone should take care of the demand growth that the consultancy predicts for this year. That is, unless it booms by 2 million bpd, which is the top of the range forecast by Energy Aspects. But even then, the U.S. and Russia alone could take care of it: The Russian state majors are itching to expand production in eastern Siberia.

Bitcoin In a Bearish Place / Currencies / Bitcoin

By: Arkadiusz_Sieron

We’re hearing a lot about Bitcoin these days. The stories range from fortunes made on the currency to the idea that this is the biggest bubble in history. What we’re not seeing much of are analyses of the Bitcoin market, and even less so of Bitcoin users. Now, in an article on the Fortune website, we read:

Nearly 60 percent of Americans have heard or read about the world’s largest cryptocurrency, according to a joint SurveyMonkey and Global Blockchain Business Council poll of more than 5,700 adults conducted in January. But only 5 percent of people actually own the digital coin.

Stock Market Trendlines Being Broken / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018

By: Anthony_Cherniawski

It appears that the Ending Diagonal trendline may be broken in the SPX at 2830.00. This is your initial aggressive sell signal. The VIX is on an aggressive sell and Hi-Lo is not. Use your discretion and do a partial short until we get confirmation with the VIX over 12.81 and the Hi-Lo beneath the trendline.

Gold as a Hedge Against Hyperinflation / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: Michael_J_Kosares

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Mr. Kosares,

I have read your articles with great interest and pleasure. I believe we are in a corner which is far from the mainstream.  In reference to buying gold as protection, I also read stories like “sell-cryptos-buy-gold,” but it is never told what will happen when there is indeed hyperinflation.

A New Commodities Bull Market is Emerging / Commodities / Commodities Trading

We’ve all watched in amazement, while the equities markets around the world have risen to new highs.  On Wall Street hardly a week goes by without a new record.  There comes a time however when a sector becomes so overbought, that smart money begins to leave and search for a sector that has been overlooked.   That moment is now at hand, as can be seen in our first chart – courtesy sources listed.

USD Nearing its Target / Stock-Markets / Financial Markets 2018

By: Anthony_Cherniawski

Good Morning!

USD futures are still trending lower, although some are calling for a bottom here. The morning low at 88.62 came awfully close to the Orthodox Broadening Top target that I have highlighted for nearly a year.

One wouldn’t be blamed for taking short profits here. However, even as the risk of a reversal rises, the Cycles Model suggests that it still has a week, if not more, of decline ahead. In addition, Wave (5) reaches 1.5 X Wave (1) at 88.16 and 1.618 X at 87.60.

Gold Gains a Powerful Friend / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

By: Arkadiusz_Sieron

Yesterday, gold won an influential supporter in the White House. Who is he?

The Enemy of Gold’s Enemy Is Gold’s Friend

As the ancient proverb goes, my enemy’s enemy is my friend. Although it is usually employed in foreign policy, this concept also applies to finance. Given the negative correlation between the greenback and gold, the enemies of the U.S. dollar are generally gold’s friends.

USD/CHF Under Long-term Support! / Currencies / Forex Trading
