“With the rally continuing to power higher in the stock markets I’m going to update the portfolio combo charts so you can see how this once is a lifetime rally in unfolding. When this impulse move finally burns itself out we will get a decent sized correction that may take a year or two build out. Until then the hardest thing for most investors riding this bull is to hang on for dear life.

For over six months or longer we’ve heard the never ending story about how overbought this market is, but the stock market doesn’t care what we think. The investors that have missed this rally are crying the loudest that the stock market has to crash because they’re not in it, if they were they would be enjoying the ride of a lifetime. At any rate the correction is going to come at some point and I can guarantee you that we won’t hit the absolute top tick. We have some price objectives that hopefully will get us out in time to enjoy our profits.

VIX performed an inside consolidation, closing above Long-term support at 10.83 and on a buy signal.  The calm may be broken.  A breakout above the Ending Diagonal trendline suggests a complete retracement of the decline from January 2016, and possibly to August 2015. 

(Bloomberg)  Just as the rapper Curtis Jackson III captures attention for realizing he’s made millions on Bitcoin, the buyer of volatility options that shares his moniker is a window shopper in VIX options no longer.

Trading patterns associated with the trader dubbed “50 Cent” resurfaced on Friday as 50,000 March VIX calls with a strike price of 24 were purchased for 49 cents a pop.

US Stock Markets Living In A Bubble / Stock-Markets / Stock Markets 2018

Signs that U.S. equities are in a bubble continue to proliferate. Although a bubble can only be confirmed in retrospect, prudent investors need to adjust their investment approach for this eventuality.  

It is said that the earlier you buy in a bubble, the better off you’ll be when the bubble bursts. Or, an investor could simply just avoid buying the assets in a bubble all together. The latter option makes more sense to us today. This implies not doing buy & hold investments in the popular indexes (Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq-100) heavily weighted in assets that are among the most crowded trades on the planet: Boeing, Caterpillar, 3M, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc.  As investors, all of our strategy portfolios are oriented towards relatively attractive foreign companies and resources stocks.  For traders (or investors who can’t stand watching the equity markets advance without them), beware of sharp pull-backs. A bubble market does not back-up to give outsiders a nice opportunity to get onboard. Getting a -3% dip on the S&P 500 at this stage probably has more chance of being the beginning of a downdraft rather than a buy-the-dip opportunity.

The mainstream press has jumped onboard the 'Tea Gate' propaganda story of the week, right from the local media through to the broadsheets by focusing on allegations that some Amey tree felling contractors were apparently 'poisoned' last year from cups of tea handed to them by residents. The Daily Mail names a couple, John and Sue Unwin whom detectives have spoken to following allegations made of worker(s) having fallen ill last October shortly after having drunk cups of tea that were handed to them by Dr Unwin, who vehemently denies the allegations as reported by the Daily Mail.

Six minutes after yesterday’s opening bell, we already posted the second alert. And for a very good reason. The USD Index took a deep dive and metals were not even close to reacting in a normal way. Crude oil prices dropped from $110 a barrel in the summer of 2014 to about $30 in January 2016. The effect on oil producers and oil-producing countries was dramatic. The Russian ruble plunged, and the Canadian dollar slipped to below 70 cents US for the first time since 2003, kicking the country into recession and snuffing out the oil boom in Alberta. So do check you oil every 1000 miles or so to ensure it does not need topping up or changing. Mayhem at Sheffield Street Tree Protests, Police, Bouncers and Multiple Assaults / Local / Sheffield

There was literally mayhem on the streets of Sheffield this week as Meersbrook Park Road (MPR) descended into chaos as protestors campaigning to prevent Amey from felling the remaining trees still standing on MPR were met by force from more than a dozen Amey HiViz security bouncers / doormen resulting in multiple assaults taking place all whilst the half dozen or so police offciers watched on in silence, failing to intervene or respond to pleas from the residents and wider public on the road that day.

Gold Price Upleg Breaking Out / Commodities / Gold and Silver 2018

Gold’s strong upleg accelerated this week, powering to major new breakout highs.  Speculators rushed to buy gold futures following surprising weak-dollar comments from the US Treasury Secretary, which hit the US dollar hard.  That boosted gold to critical technical levels that should really intensify the shift back to bullish psychology.  This mounting gold breakout confirms gold’s bull market is very much alive and well.

While this week’s surge put gold on many more traders’ radars, it has actually been picking up steam for 6 weeks now.  Gold’s latest major interim low of $1242 came a couple days before the Fed’s latest rate hike in mid-December.  The gold-futures speculators who dominate this metal’s short-term price action have always had a deep and irrational fear of Fed rate hikes.  Historically gold has thrived in rate-hike cycles!

SPX futures are higher, but no new records. Today is day 253 of the Master Cycle that began at the May 18, 2017 low. As mentioned, we may call this an inverted Master Cycle because of its uninterrupted rally since then. An inverted Master Cycle may also mean the end of a trend, since it sows the seeds of its own destruction. While the uptrend hasn’t yet been broken, the range of the consolidation is becoming narrower and may lead to a breakout or breakdown.

What Could Push Crude Oil To $100? / Commodities / Crude Oil

If anyone thought the latest oil market outlooks of the EIA and the IEA are upbeat, here’s an even more upbeat one from Energy Aspects: The consultancy expects crude demand this year to grow by 1.7 million bpd, and says Brent could touch above $100 a barrel in 2019.

According to Energy Aspects, the reason for the further jump in prices will be a drop in new production outside the U.S. shale patch. It’s a little hard to buy that, however, if one remembers that there is 1.8 million bpd in production capacity ready to be tapped again once OEPC and Russia taper their production cuts. That alone should take care of the demand growth that the consultancy predicts for this year. That is, unless it booms by 2 million bpd, which is the top of the range forecast by Energy Aspects. But even then, the U.S. and Russia alone could take care of it: The Russian state majors are itching to expand production in eastern Siberia.

Nearly 60 percent of Americans have heard or read about the world’s largest cryptocurrency, according to a joint SurveyMonkey and Global Blockchain Business Council poll of more than 5,700 adults conducted in January. But only 5 percent of people actually own the digital coin.
